I've found this console generation very lackluster. How many ps5 exclusive games have there been so far? (I can only think of 2 off the top of my head.) Xbox has been doing awful with their first-party titles. Nintendo still hasn't released a successor to the Switch yet. Am I alone in feeling this way?

Spiderman 2
Horizon Forbidden West
Ratchet and Clank Rift apart
God of War Ragnarok
Stellar Blade
Helldivers 2

Soo more than 2 exclusives

Anyway I don't disagree this gen hasn't been great. There are still a lot of cross gen games that are put on PS5/PS4 Xbox One/X/S. LOTS of remakes and remasters too.

I think what has been missing a solid slate of middle of the road "decent but not fantastic" games, like we saw in the PS2 and PS3 generations. Now we either get a handful of AAA games or hundreds of forgettable indy games, or failed live service games.

As far as Nintendo- I have owned all Nintendo consoles- I even have a Wii U. Switch has some great games, but I honestly am sick of their approach of being several years behind with their technology. I was starting to feel that way a year into the Switch, then Metroid Prime remake came out and I saw some reviewers gushing about how fantastic it looked.. and I just LOL'd. Not only are they far behind with their tech, they are blatantly relying on their established franchises and nostalgia. Nintendo does still innovate, as evidenced by the success of Wii and Switch, but I feel like they really could be doing more to innovate and amaze people. I feel like they set the bar for themselves too low. They are capable of so much more.

I don't think there's anything purchase worthy on either that isn't already or will be on PC.

I really want to play FFXVI. But I can wait. I can't even think of an XBox SX game that isn't also on PC. Is there?

Worst I've seen in my lifetime. I legit haven't turned on my PS5 in a year. Nothing exciting is coming out. All you need is a PC at this point and what I'm playing on PC is typically indie titles these days.

The video game industry is going through the same thing as the movie industry where they fell in love with the blockbuster/AAA title. Now every game/movie has to be epic and make 1 billion dollars or it's a failure. No one wants to spend the time or effort making smaller experiences that make OK money. It has to be potential monster hit or it doesn’t get made. At least from the big developers outside of Nintendo.

With the time it takes to develop a game coupled with the advancement of the technology, I don't think the systems are optimally utilized until the back 25% of the life cycle. The bridge to the new systems' exclusivity also seems to widen as time goes on. Then you have bigwigs who want stuff out the door in beta mode with patch updates for an unfinished product (Cyberpunk). This isn't even accounting for the politics of the developer that can turn people off whether it's a good game or not.

I say all this just to agree with you for now, but with the caveat of the best is yet to come hopefully.

Its bad overall

So much more could have been done with this hardware but these companies basically cash in on retarded loot box teenagers

I play stuff from like 15 years ago mostly, unless a good remake comes out

That was a better time

Technoligically, the PS5 & SeriesX was a significantly bigger leap over the PS4 & XBoxOne were to the PS3 & XBox360.

But when it comes to games, you won't have any argument from be about it be amazingly weak.

Very lackluster and underwhelming.
Game companies are still releasing games for the Ps4 & XboxOne, which means they aren't taking advantage of the hardware capabilities for the next generation.
They are far behind.

PS3 had the greatest overall roster of games from any console that ever existed, been downhill ever since

2007 was the best year for games ever, and whatever year is 2nd place its far behind.

The problem is games have become insanely expensive to produce & market, to the point they rival many blockbuster movie budgets. That makes developers play it safe with established formula and mechanics rather than take creative risks.

That's just the reality of the situation, and why indy games are telling the future of the industry.

Does Leon not know how to circle away?

Ooops, wrong thread lol. Fucking Leon giving us Belal as champ.

Anyway, the great thing about this gen is that It's allowed me to tackle a lot of my library from better days.

Last year was pretty stellar for releases, and now we have a Shadow of the Erdtree and a far improved Lords of the Fallen recently, if you're a Souls fan, but it's pretty lacking overall.

I'm really glad I wasn't able to get my hands on a PS5 when I was trying to. I can wait for the definitive editions of FF 16 and FF7 Rebirth.

I like the machines themselves. Compared to the PS4 the PS5 is whisper quiet, and the Series X is even more so. My only issue with the consoles are their hideous size and shape, but other than that I like them just fine. However, the fact that the best games of the generation are cross-generation with the PS4 and Xbox One is ridiculous. Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon etc are all available on PS4 for fuck’s sake. In terms of exclusives to this generation only the PS5 cannot justify its own existence.

As a PS5 owner and a former owner of XBOX1 and PS4, you'll never convince me that this current Gen graphics and performance is any better than the last Gen

I can't tell the damn difference between PS4 and PS5. I got an Ultra 4k Ultra HD TV and the shit looks the same. These companies are just milking us.

I put over 100 hours in Elden Ring on the PS4 version, upgraded to the PS5 version for free, put 100 hours in on that and both versions look and play the exact same to me

Some people say they see big differences, I call BS on that. Loading screens might be faster.

We didn't need this current Gen but the console developers needed to make more money and that's why this Gen was created.

Don't get me wrong, I like my PS5 but there was nothing wrong or outdated with PS4.

Games like Warzone push the PS4 to the limit, even in storage alone.

The PS5 and Series X have also not been pushed hard by their games because of the need to downgrade performance targets for the sake of last gen consoles. That's normal, but supply challenges have exacerbated this.

I own a PS5, and aside from playing some of the sports titles I love, there is zero reason to play it. I have a good PC, pretty much no reason to go console unless you care about sports games.

The Nintendo Switch, even though its a generation older, is infinitely more valuable than these current gen PS5/X machines.

Elden Ring has been the only generation defining game for me so far. So yes. This gen has been a huge disappointment.

When I think that at one time I had the 360 and the DS Lite at the same time?

It makes me make my o face.

Now I'm just like

PS5's full exclusive list is emaciated, too. This is after nearly 4 full years of release. Those with asterisks are generally expected to follow in the footsteps of previous games in their series (or under their development/publishing umbrella), and be ported to PC. And the Nioh collection is just a compendium of older games, albeit with new expansion content.
