Social How would people act if the world was actually ending?

I think it would just be n exaggerated version of right now. We already have people in the hood playing shoot em up. Already have people getting stabbed for Nikes. Already have women being followed home and raped by felons out on early release. Already have cops being spit on and ignored. Legalized shoplifting, people allowed to live and shit in the streets doing drugs. I think you would just see more sheep flock to churches, and more suicides. . I would get my buddies together and throw a rager. Spend the rest with my family. Maybe steal a Ferrari.

If you're interested in other "end of the world" movies, Last Night(1998) is one in which some of the ideas you touched on in the op are covered. I haven't seen in quite a long time, but remember it being a decent watch.

I think the main risk is getting a new local government that is fucked up. A militia that wants you to pray a certain way or something.

Otherwise, I think people might even show up for work.

I would really hope for a world wide airing of grievances. It would be funny to see everyone release all the shit they have kept inside for years

I always thought a good premise for a movie would be where people go end of the world nuts....and the asteroid just misses and folks are held accountable for their actions.

The movie is basically a "we have to stop this extinction level asteroid from hitting" type movie similar to Armageddon, but is a bit of a comedic, whimsical sort of movie. I enjoyed it!

You probably won't get a memo ahead of time because its the ones you don't see that get you, the ones you see you can try to prevent by pushing the asteroid off course. So that's the first thing, you won't likely get any forewarning, it will just happen and that will be that. Secondly, even if the governments of the world knew it was going to happen, they wouldn't likely tell you because it would cause panic and make things even worse.

So either way, you aren't likely to know about a "civilization crusher" prior to the moment it turns the atmosphere into an 800 degree firestorm. Our government officials, however, have already taken measures to build deep underground military bases, some refer to as D.U.M.B.'s, where they will hide while you fry.

I think most people would flood the streets and start looting/fighting/killing. A fair share would run to the nearest church, but I do believe it would be The Purge come to life.

Most people can't fight nor even could kill someone lol

If the asteroid is over a certain size living past the initial impact doesn´t mean jack shit. Since everything on the surface, including bacteria is dead

Yea, its pretty scary actually since we know its happened before, multiple times.

So I was watching Don't Look Up the other day on Netflix. It is a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, and is peppered with celebrity cameo appearances. The movie is basically a "we have to stop this extinction level asteroid from hitting" type movie similar to Armageddon, but is a bit of a comedic, whimsical sort of movie. I enjoyed it!

Anyway, I won't tell how the movie ended, but toward the end of the movie people behaved in different ways including giant rooftop orgies, spending time with family, etc.

I've lived through a couple of end of the worlds myself (har har). I am wondering how people would really behave. So let's say NASA tells us an asteroid is about to hit Earth and will most assuredly take out everything short of cockroaches and Tardigrades...

I think the following would happen:

  • A lot of people would end up going to church. People who are "religious twice a year" will run back to God or whatever deity they serve. Many people who were not originally religious would become religious on some Pascal's Wager type thing.
  • There'd be a lot of conspiracy theorists insisting the asteroid is not real and there is some government-level hoax.
  • I think a lot of people would kill themselves. I think for a few reasons. There'd be some people who'd be crawling with anxiety (who wouldn't?) knowing the end is quickly approaching. Many people would probably think "f it" and get it out of the way, and some people would probably party so hard that they'd accidentally overdose. Which leads me to the next one...
  • Partying - One thing I can give humans credit for is that no matter what crap we're facing, there will always be some people who will bust out drinks, turn on the loudspeaker, and rock on! There'd be "End of the World" parties with End of the World playing by R.E.M.

  • Memes - You better believe there'd be "end of the world" memes for Aliens to find in the space debris after few millenia or so.

  • The government would have some "rich people escape plan" - It'd be on some 2012, Noah's ark crap where the Elon Musks and Jeff Bezoses would peace out!
  • Some people would try to survive anyway and would be running to underground bunkers with their emergency equipment.
  • There'd be a cult looking at the sky - waiting for the comet to come down. There'd be someone who'd find some two hundred year old text predicting this (which would be legit) and would say it was prophecy waiting to happen.
  • The Purge level anarchy! Even though the world would be ending, people'd stop giving af about consequences. It'd be their opportunity to kill, steal, rape, rob, etc. they'd never see the inside of a jail cell and most cops probably wouldn't even be patrolling (for what?)
  • Crazy risk taking - People'd be rushing to knock off bucket list stuff. Skydiving, driving 120 mph down the highway, threesomes, streaking, handgliding, etc.

  • Lastly, there'd be folks who would make peace with it and keep living life the way they've always done. There'd be a dedicated nurse who'd wake up the day of the asteroid and think "Those sick children at the hospital aren't gonna take care of themselves". An old janitor who'd go in and sweep the building one last time. Military personnel who'd try their best in the ever increasing anarchy in the streets.

I think I covered all of the bases. What do you think most people would do? What would you do yourself?

A lot depends on how much time you have. If you have 6 months, you'd probably behave a lot differently than if you had 6 hours. Probably some of all of this though.

Humans will be harder to eradicate than most people think though. We are capable of creating self sustaining enclosed biospheres. We would only need enough electricity to provide light and heat for these places for a couple years until solar power could take over.

I would get a little mini basketball and a mini basketball net and dunk on Jordan

I would take my millions and disappear.

<{ByeHomer}>

I’ll probably go around killing people

Years ago i saw a docu on the guy who first came up asteroid impact theory. Before that the craters were thought to be extinguished volcanos. The other scientists thought he was full of shit. Then he tracked an asteroids that would hit Jupiter. The world's scientist were watching as this rock slammed into Jupiter and made a firestorm half the size of earth. They had filmed footage of these scientists. The OMFG look on their faces was pretty funny and scary.

Yea I remember when that happened, it was the comet named Shoemaker-Levy and it hit Jupiter leaving an impact mark larger than Earth.

Why the hell would anyone kill themselves? A glorious ending is just around the corner.

there would be partying and killing and people going to church

just another day in Brazil

I would steal an Arleigh Burke and rule the planet with an iron fist and make battlebots the national sport.

I think the docu I saw was happening in the late 70s. Probably over 15 years ago I watched the docu
