How Threatening was Muammar Gaddafi?

I am kinda intrigue by he Colonel!

Growing up I always here the aunts and uncles in my family talk about Gaddafi and how he will try to turn pro western nations around and be like Libya or the Soviet Union, and that he would support Islamists to destabilize countries with Moslem minorities.

They also mentioned how Reagan totally fuck Gaddafi in a 1986 bombing, was Gaddafi that threatening?




It seems the Ronald is trying to removed him from office or just outright take him out like bomb him to death!
I know he was implicated in the Lockerbie Pan American Airlines bombing but other than that terrorist attack does he has the potential to be a conqueror of Nations in North Africa at-least?

And in recent years it seems Benghazi Queen Hillary Clinton celebrated when he died!


Was it really the CIA who orchestrated his ouster and subsequent murder? If so was it really needed? Is he like the Sadam of the 80s?



It just seems the 80s is field with anti Gaddafi media movies like Top Gun,Iron Eagle and others seems to portray Libya as a big bad country but it did not take long before he was over shadowed by Sadam Husein in the 90s.

I remember I could not get good toys like a Super Nintendo because mom says "no Saddam fucked the ecconomy you can't have more video games"

And I am legit pissed at Sadam for that!

So my question for the 80s kids did Gaddafi caused the ecconomy to fall or oil prices to go up back in the day too like how Sadam fucked it up?

It was bad during his reign...sadly it got worst when he was gone.
 
I never thought he will be taken out like that he got Mousolinied atleast Saddam got some sort of a trial and hanged Gaddafi was dragged by some bandits and got shot in the head he probably got drugged and tortured too.

What happened to Gaddafi and Mussolini is tame compared to Ceausescu and his wife. They got dragged into the street after trial and gunned down on national TV. Something like a couple thousand rounds went through their bodies to the point the dust from the bullets hitting the ground and the wall behind them shrouded a lot of what happened.

Like 3-4 military officers were on the firing squad but a couple hundred people volunteered.
 
He was a threat, but then played ball form the late 80s/90s onward, and then the West became overzealous about the optics of the "Arab Spring" and ruined Libya for good face in terms of human rights, and of course predictably stoked the flames of chaos.

Ah yeah I forgot about that! I saw a doccumentary in BBC about that yeah I think it is the most brutal, I am not that old enough to have observed the media during that time but my Mom told me about how other dictators should have the same faith as the leaders of Romania.

From what I know Ceusescu have killed his own people in mass like ordered the Military to shoot protesters. And that part of history I am severely lacking like did Romania really got better after the Ceausesecu couples where ousted and killed?

Also from a magazine I read that one of the soldiers who led them to the yard were they will shot said that Mrs.Ceusescu smelled very bad like she is covered in Feces, I wonder if she really did intentionally covered her self to avoid getting raped, I heard somewhere that in cases like that people do that.

Part of my dad's side of the family is from Bucharest but came over in the early 1900s. The little I know of modern Romania comes from the Top Gear special when they went there in GT cars and noted that as soon as you leave a major city the roads become dirt and the area becomes "Borat land" to quote Clarkson.

It does have an incredible driving road though.


I've had one friend visit the area and he said if you're in the city it looks great and a modern country, you leave the city.... it's like going back in time.

Interfering with Libya was the Obama admins worst decision to me.
 
My dad is 100% convinced he met Gaddafi once when he was working on merchant ships in that area.
 
Genuinely nutty famously flatulent , he supplied arms to PIRA and someone in his London embassy murdered WPC Yvonne Fletcher hard to mourn his passing despite the fuck up that whole area is becoming .

I'm not so sure, the consequences were terrible obviously, but no one can accurately predict those.

Gaddafi was about to go full Assad on Benghazi till we hit his tanks in the open.

Seeing what happened in Mosul and other places, I think the outcome is still preferable.

Also, putting the blame squarely on the US and Obama isn't fair either.

France and the UK were lighting the place up before us.
