How Threatening was Muammar Gaddafi?

My dad is 100% convinced he met Gaddafi once when he was working on merchant ships in that area.

Gaddafi just looks like a living Parody of some weird Rock Star Latin Music Dictator!

The story my dad had was the cargo ship he was on was docked in Tripoli picking up some stuff to be shipped to Lebanon and he was on the dock, it was like 11pm and this dude in sunglasses started speaking to him, gave him a cigar, asked how he liked living in the States and how often he came through Libya/the Med and shit.

didn't gaddafi get sodomized with a bayonet before being killed.

that's brutal

Not at all. He was a good comrade.

We helped take him out at a time we needed more like him

"We" as in citizens of the world. Not "we" as in the Western profiteers that plan the national and world economy.

Dam I did not know he is a Chivista baby

Was it really the CIA who orchestrated his ouster and subsequent murder?

While this would make sense, and would be completely consistent with the declassified history of the CIA, there is no evidence of that. From all verified accounts, the plan originated in England and was enthusiastically cosigned by Clinton, while Obama was hesitant.

Love the arguments I see that basically say that he was the best his shithole country could do. If he wasn’t better than what they went to then what does that say abot the population

I know a person whose father was a member of Gaddafi's cabinet. Supposedly he was a very amicable, quirky guy.

He's also, I have learned, one of the single hardest figures in modern history to get accurate accounts of, due to the persistence of Western propaganda.

My dad never had a bad time in Libya and said he had heard rumors of Gaddafi going out at night to walk around like a normal person to try and see what was going on himself.

I know he wasn't a "nice" guy if you can call it that but him being executed like Saddam left huge power vacuums.

And never forget Sarkozy, he was the most motivated to do it. Only Berlusconi warned them that it would be a huge mistake.

RIP Gaddafi.

Strongman leader, absolutely necessary in parts of the world where people aren't ready for democracy.

He also never lied.

Yes, where there is UK meddling in African life, there is always France in the wings.

I'm not familiar with Berlusconi or his input, though.

Maybe Americans know better how much the CIA was involved, but I can tell you that us, French (Sarkozy), did a lot with troops, funds, weapons, logistic to help Al Qaida/ISIS kill Gaddafi.

Franco and Tito are other examples especially for their time periods.

Torture and execution don't really float my boat but such unsavoury ends are an occupational hazard for the average despot .

You're right. He probably committed horrible crimes against people and was a tyrant so it's the game he chose to play.

I think what was prett scary is seeing Madam Clinton's reaction when she watched the video of his torture/death. She was giddy, laughing and cracking jokes. Pretty sick behavior.
