How much of a better grappler Magomed is compared to Jiri and Jan?

He is the same tier as Umar ;P

Jan has a pretty bad gas tank when it comes to grappling. Both Pereira and Ankalaev really took over after it faded. I would expect Jan's TDD fresh to be better thank Alex's TDD tank fresh. Alex has power he can carry throughout 5 rounds though and has better kicks.

The real question is what if Ankalaev brings Jans wrestling but doesn't gas for 5 rounds. I would guess that the fight is probably going to be the opposite of Jan/Ankalaev, where Alex does better avoiding TDs the later the fight goes. Jan's leg kicks against Ankalaev didn't really slow down the takedowns though.

He's not a top grappler but he's a very good one for his division. Ceirtanly the best Alex ever faced

he doesn't commit to takedowns in a lot in his fights, when he did against krylov he managed to outwrestle him and krylov is one of the best wrestlers in that division. Ankalaev is probably the best wrestler at 205, I don't see anyone who is better

Ankalaev is a much better wrestler than Jan or Jiri; that's the point.

That being said, Ankalaev isn't a high-end wrestler like the LHWs of past generations, and he has the fight IQ of a brick. So I wouldn't be surprised if he just keeps it standing.
100%

Mostly agree with this. I think Ank will slow down later in the fight; I don't think he can keep Alex down for 5 rounds. Jan's leg kicks may not have stopped Ank, but they aren't nearly as hard as Alex's. Alex can chop him down; I hope this will be a fight where Alex uses his leg kicks a lot.

Ankalaev is a striker first, but he does have the wrestling in his back pocket. As others have stated, he’s not a submission threat but he’ll take his opponents down and gnp them.

Jan is a BJJ black belt, but lacks in wrestling skills. I mean Gustafsson took him down multiple times IIRC when Jan was getting the better of him standing.

Jiri has some good scrambles and isn’t a bad grappler, but I’d rate him below those two both in overall grappling and wrestling skills.

I think Ankalaev’s best chance to win is by using all the tools he has. So going for takedowns to keep Pereira guessing & working and landing that straight left of his. He has a sharp left and will be looking to land it often as Pereira stands tall and doesn’t use a high guard. That’s nothing that Pereira hasn’t seen before but the takedown threat will be working for Ankalaev..

You obviously have no idea what you’re talking about, but thanks for participating.
