How many actual strength athletes are in your gym?

I'd include bodybuilding here as a strength sport, together with powerlifting and the others.

So how many?

In the gym that I work at... Seven. Thats it. Of all the hundreds of guys signed up with us who train here at least semi-regularly, only seven of them take heavy weight training seriously.

Most people who sign up with us either don't know what goals they have or they are just there "for health".

I honestly wonder if this is normal or maybe I'm just in a "twink" gym. lol

I live in Idaho.

I lift at home.......so zero? I don't chase numbers as much as I do consistency these days. Certainly not a strength athlete, never have been. Just trying to supplement what my other hobbies don't offer me with regards to injury reduction and overall physical preparedness.

Haven't you ever fantasized about benching 400 or deadlifting 600? Just curious.

There is a 19 year old in the gym whom I asked what his goal is. He simply said, "I just wanna get jacked, bro."

I just thought most guys wanted that from the very beginning. I didn't realize it wasn't that common.

Getting jacked is awesome and if that's the goal, fuck yeah do it. I've fantasized a lot more about winning Worlds than slapping an extra plate or two on my working sets. I've definitely been on bulks thinking that my progress on the mat would directly correlate with my progress under the bar and on the scale. Not so. Guys smaller/weaker than me who attended class more frequently were still kicking my ass. Through that process I learned where my body feels/performs best and where my time is best spent in relation to my goals.

I'm getting older now so I'd likely be one of those guys in your gym "for health".

I lift at a family YMCA when I don't lift at home, so not many. I don't think I've seen a 500+ lbs deadlift or 400+ lbs squat. I've seen some decent benches though. I've also never seen someone do a snatch or clean and jerk. I'm old and if I'm at a powerlifting gym I'm pretty low level, but I'm arguably the strongest at this gym lol. I still do most of my main lifting at home though.

Havent trained at a gym since I was a member a few years ago. Some pro wrestlers and a pro strongman trains in my area so I would frequently bump into them. I do not see myself joining a gym again too much trouble when I can do everything in my garage and street.

You still at a Crunch fitness? Isn't that like a Planet Fitness type gym?

It's a variety.

My city does have a Planet Fitness. Crunch Fitness is a lot more varied and doesn't have a lunk alarm.

Crunch feels a lot like a YMCA, just without the kids. We are complete. Two power racks, four deadlift platforms, et cetera.

But no. lol. We don't have a lunk alarm and we don't mind it if our clients drop the weight when they're deadlifting.

Also, I'm no longer their janitor. I'm basically the top sales representative who's next in line for an assistant manager position, assuming I keep improving of course.

That's your answer though. You train people in a Globo gym. It's awesome that people have power racks etc available there these days, but the main target are people that just want to lift some weights and look good. That's the business model, with some classes thrown in.

Real strength gyms aren't that profitable. The equipment breaks, you need heaps of space and can only have so many people lifting hard at the same time. 7 isn't that bad at all.

I know. Man, I know and I hate it. But I wanna make money, so I just pretend I appreciate most of these people and force myself to see them as awesome for the simple reason that they have enough discipline to stay consistent with their pink dumbbell cardio bunny RPE 3/10 workouts. And to be fair, they do deserve that compliment. But the real athletes deserve much more.

lol... I train at an Anytime Fitness gym and that one is open 24/7. I'm not gonna get bothered by those twinks during my heavy sessions. lol. I train on the least busy hours. Midnights or late evenings.

When I do see those hardcore bodybuilders or powerlifters in my day job gym though, it's a real treat. lol

Boy I bet that lunk alarm starts going off if you get within a mile of that building

Oh I think I get it.

I've seen people get kicked out of Planet Fitness for the most minor things. There's a guy who was warned to stop lifting for the simple reason that he put five plates each side of the bar. He didn't even trigger lunk alarm.

All of that was stuff I saw in YouTube of course, but still. That sounds scary. lol

Sounds like your gym could be a level in Muscle March or those Cho Aniki video games.

So many video games, so many I haven't played yet. lol

I just wanna be a very strong and powerful Orc chieftain so I can claim Aerith after beating Cloud with my bare hands.

I won't lie, Astaroth was my favorite Soul Caliber character.
