How Long Before they Pull the Plug on ESPN+?

One things I will say is this...
Before, when I was on the road, I could always find a PPV at a local BWWs or other sports bar. Then that switched to only being able to find a HIGH-PROFILE PPV at SOME local establishments. .

the procedure for business premises buying ppv's has not changed, they still get them from Joe Hand promotions.

No change whatsoever

What it sounds like is those local establishments werent buying the business ppv ;)

im guessing u havent seen the stuff they say theyre gonna put out? it will be worth it to a lot of ppl. i mean, if u own espn+ app, why wouldnt u just upgrade to this?

I've looked at several lists and almost all the content has been kids movies. It looks very lacking for adults compared to Netflix.

Both of these comments are really dumb. You pitch in and order it exactly the same as before...go to your friends house who's ordering it and give him $10.

Everyone under 40 should not have an issue getting the app on their tv.

Your question is like asking "how do i watch netflix on my tv?"

Like I said before, "I think you underestimate how much of us older folks are still living a pretty primitive life lol"

I actually have no idea how to get netflix on my tv. I've never in my life had netflix. I'm an old fashion cable tv watcher and dvd collector. Some of us just never thought we'd have to get up to date with technology in order to watch the new UFCs. Don't know why that warrants name calling. My TV was bought in 2006, never thought it was necessary to upgrade my set up, UNTIL ESPN+ and DAZN taking over the fight world became a thing. All I was trying to say is there's a few of us out there still

The Disney+ deal is only going to be worth it if they put more adult content on the service from their acquired companies. Idgaf about Disney's own catalogue. That shit is for kids.

Disney owns like 30% of movies that go to the theater. They own more than just The classic kiddie shit.

I was a critic initially but ESPN+ has been great imho
They could make it to where the early prelims, prelims, and ppv all flow together though.
Having to click back and open a new stream to watch what you're already watching is a bit convoluted.

It seems Marvel and Star Wars have a pretty broad audience, eg, not just kids.

Ultimately the bundling of Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ will be the attraction for most households.

Although, I believe the promoted price for the bundles includes the janky version of Hulu that runs ads.

And not being able to fast forward without a preview screen, stupid and cheap platform....I'll just FF and guess where the action starts again.

PS: WTF is a "commercial break" on ESPN+, aren't we the consumers of said product ?
I'm with you on the fast forwarding and rewinding thing, but I kinda get the commercial breaks considering the service is only $5. I'll watch a few commercials to keep the service fee low.

If you live in the USA and want to watch all UFC events, it costs $780/year

It really is absurd. One of the major hurdles to growing the sport has been the PPV model. The UFC doesn't get treated as an actual sport here, its sort of looked at as a spectacle, more like the circus coming to town.

Most people ignore it all year, but once in a while a tent-pole event will get attention.

I do think there will be change in the next few years.

It really comes down to how many people are ordering PPV on ESPN+. If that number isn't sustaining what they are paying the UFC out for that exclusive broadcast they will change. They'll work out a deal to eliminate the PPV element and make it just part of ESPN+ and probably ESPN itself. The big events being part of ESPN+ in theory should bring in more monthly subscribers and it will grow in revenue that way. As fans we should hope PPV buys continue to struggle.

ESPN has a business model that will collapse on itself. VERY, very brief explanation is that it's revenue is driven by subscriptions. These subs need to cover the costs to bid on the big contracts of live sports.
As more & more homes cut the cord ESPN continue to raise the price of subscriptions to make up the losses / differential to complete for live sporting rights. That bring in advertising...
But this practice causes them to lose even more subs at a greater rate. Because the cost isn't competitive.
Eventually they won't have the funds to compete for the big live sporting events...
Or they go completely bankrupt before then. ESPN's days are number as we can tell by the desperate shows they program.

This is exactly it. It's simply too expensive. I can't justify to my wife spending $65 each time there's a PPV I want to watch. I long for the day when UFC events are all just aired on ESPN or something, like other mainstream sports. I'm not confident it will ever happen though, unfortunately.

i dont have netflix either. but im not an idiot.

you know how to put apps on your phone? you know how to use google?

you seriously cant type "how do i watch espn+ on my tv" into google?

Live outside of COMCAST range, so have to have Satellite internet and it sucks. Streaming anything isn't in HD. In SD, it still buffers all the time. It's horrible. I miss FS1 badly. UFC Tonight was an excellent show and really helped my wife learn more about the fighters and hyped us for the upcoming fights. ESPN+ is beyond terrible for us.

But the list of day one movies is all kiddie shit. Not worth it to me until they build the library out.

I've already seen all the Marvel movies, those do nothing for me. They need to add all the movies from Fox for it to be worth it to me.

Don't let this blow your mind, but I feel confident Disney isn't focusing on Blaseblah as their sole customer.

Suffice to say Star Wars and Marvel has a very large audience, or more specifically, the largest movie going audience in the world today. That content is a big attraction for their streaming package.

You think I'm the only one interested in this deal who doesn't care about Disney movies? What about all the other adult males without kids?

Virtually no one is doing this.

Most households have a smart TV or a streaming device, even modern gaming systems work.

Currently, ESPN+ works with Roku, Chromecast, XBOX, Playstation, Android and Apple everything, Amazon Fire and Samsung smart TVs. If you have Netflix, you can watch ESPN+ on your TV.
I'm an old guy that doesn't know alot about modern technology. I am lucky I even figured out the cable hook up!<45>

By February of 2020 they’ll have a ton more content + more original shows.

Add to the fact that Hulu has all that adult content + Sports from ESPN+, the bundle deal at $12.99 is a steal imo. It’s cheaper than Netflix and you get 3 different services.
