How Long Before they Pull the Plug on ESPN+?

Perfect Sherdog thread - no knowledge of contracts, no figures or data to prove their assertions, just 1 sentence with a fatuous, stupid assertion.

Why are you allowed to make threads?

Same reason you can. Why do you need call his opinion stupid?

My parents are senior citizens in a rural area and have Netflix streaming on all the televisions in their home.

This is a solved problem.

Your parents=/=everyone.

I grew up redneck and know several people that have no internet access at all, and the options available to them are dogshit, take a minute to load a webpage bad.

You countered my anecdotal reference with an anecdote of your own.

In 2018, over 69% of USA households were streaming. In fact, streaming has now surpassed Pay TV in US households.

It is quite literally, demonstrably, a minority of households that are not using streaming devices. This is a solved problem.

Dude, I never said it wasn't a minority. The two demographics I listed (elderly and very rural) are minorities themselves, and I never said it was even the majority of either group that would be walled off.

There are people walled off by not being on cable and instead requiring a seperate paywall and a decent internet connection. Thats all I said.

Right so we are in a agreement.

Netflix and the UFC don't spend much time thinking about the fringe number of people who don't have access to the internet. It is such a small piece of the pie, it doesn't factor into decision making.

This sub-thread run of posts started off with a fellow who suggested people wouldn't want to have to string an HDMI cable from their computer to watch ESPN+. We know factually that is not how most American's are consuming streaming content.

In fact, it has never been easier or more convenient to watch streaming apps across a multitude of rooms and devices, and this is now common practice.

Virtually no one is doing this.

Are you sure? I'm actually running a VGA cable from an old computer that I rebuilt as "streaming device" to a large screen TV in my living room. Definitely not HD quality but it works good.

I'm not a fan of the concept of PPVs on ESPN+. That said, there is no question that the UFC has lost viewers from the move. They are willing to take a gamble they can hook people off of ESPN for the ride. That said, the loss of people doesnt mean a loss or revenue. They get a far bigger cut from the PPVs now than when it was the cable companies charging astronomical amounts. The difference on what their take was vs what it now is easily makes up for how many they lost plus a large amount.
I can easily believe they are even making far more than they would if they had stayed on that model. And this model is why the way belts will be handled not to who deserves it but based on who more people have interest in. This is also why they are salivating to get connor back in against a high profile opponent. They will get a huge boost in their profit if they just generate shows this way

As a fan I think it is awesome. The coverage is great, and the app is working beautifully. So I have no issues with it whatsoever. In terms of popularity I don’t know I don’t have the figures in front of me?

I'm just not giving espn my money.. When I have it. I've had cable for a long time. It's principle. I might end up doing it.. Idk.

There are people who work on their own cars, enthusiasts and the like.

That is still a minority of participants in American households.

If you bought a TV in the last 5 years, its likely it has smart TV capabilities and can stream apps like Netflix and Hulu out of the box. Then you have Apple TV, Xbox, Playstation, Roku, Chromcast and then a dozen smaller off-brand streaming devices.

Over 50% of American households are streaming multiple paid apps. Over 70% have at least one, and those polls are already a year old.

ESPN+ is about to get a huge boost in November.

By all accounts Disney+ is going to be a big success. The Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ discounted combined package will be pretty successful in my opinion.

What polls? Unless you're including people who downloaded some apps on their phones, I think your stats incorrect or manipulated in some way.

UFC is not dying but this PPV model and whatever else can't going forever cause it's pure greed on the most part and people are starting to not give in to that and stand against it.

Which is why they barely put any on PPV in the UK cause they get so much backlash and cancellations, they're always very cautious about it (although their greed still gets them to do it and then be like "Oh no") lol

No time soon. Lets stop always being negative about the sport we love and enjoy watching, always wanting negative things to happen. I hope it continues being successful so we can get the best fights and entertainment.

UFC said through the first quarter they have doubled their viewership compared to FS1. They are the main factor in the large growth ESPN + has gotten so ESPN should be happy with them, why would they want to leave?

It will, and it's growing on an international scale too massively, they're always visiting new places and putting on events in new places all the time as they're reaching more demographics so lets say for argument sake it dies in the US (which it won't) the sport is continuously growing in so many places so it's not going to just end :)

Fans say this all the time about the things they love, it's as though they want them to fail or something, WWE fans do it all the time and have been since Hulk Hogan was telling Ultimate Warrior he was going to break him lol

NFL Sunday ticket isn’t free?
No. You get 3 games a week free. Usually your local teams.

Then theres a Monday, Sunday, and Thursday night games that require cable. Actually not Monday sorry, but all other 14 games cost money if you want to watch them

I'd just like to reemphasize how great these two posts were, back to back nontheless:
