I think people will try to milk it for 2 more years before its dried up.

It's been around for far longer than you think. All the way to the celebrity boxing type matches in the 90s, to weird gimmicks like exhibitions where Ali or Jack Dempsey boxed some pro wrestler I believe it was.

It has a place in this low IQ low class world of niche combat sports. It's not going away.

Kinda does for me tbh. At least a bit.

But by now he should be called a boxer, shouldn't he? Not a super high quality one, but not just a youtuber anymore.

It shouldn't. The YouTuber has shown only one thing definitively, aging MMA fighters are easy targets within boxing for young hard working decent athletes willing to put in the work and don't forget it keeps fighting smaller guys. Such is life....

If anything, we need more freakshows.

Blows my mind we haven't seen a celebrity TUF season yet. Sure, Dana ain't going to pay these dudes, but the exposure would probably be worth more to them than the money.

We got a writer/actor strike right now. Let Hollywood bang bro!

Gotta give Paul some credit at this point...

We don't because he is boxing aging and faded MMA fighters who to the man have been smaller and spent their lives not being a specialist. I'll give him credit when he steps into the octagon against a current professional MMA fighter who is in his weight class, not physically shot, and under the age of 35. I can't understand anyone giving him any credit for anything other than carefully picking his opponents (he trains hard as well). The one positive is that his MMA opponents are making good money.

How long before the profit bubble pops? When will people get wise to the gimmick and when will promoters like Jake Paul stop making money from these shitty entertainment events?

Well it's mma fans that watch that shit so it'll be around as long as mma fans like watching absolute dog shit. So... forever.

Can't see it ever ending. Millions of dollars have been, and will be, generated from these events.

Can only see it growing as new villains are created to further divide and antagonize different groups while the bank accounts of slimy promoters swell.

Boxing has been a "gimmick fight" teh hole time.

It pre-dates "public MMA" by 100 yearz or so... so it will take time to shake out, but MMA is staged to replace boxing, once teh "OG generation" of boxing fanz... (who are teh rich elderly that buyz their sub-par fighting effectiveness for a real fight) gets too old to vote with their viewership & PPV buys.

It's just a matter of time. MMA will eventually send Boxing to its grave.

Influencer clown culture is here to stay until the 800kt Russian warheads rain down.

Gimmick boxing neva die! Chyna-Buttafuoco was epic!

The only fans thot era is the golden era of professional boxing

Meh, Disagree. It takes some skill to beat these guys still. No one is saying Paul is the next Mike Tyson either.

its ingrained into boxing culture so it will never go away.

It's been around forever anyway. It's just getting taken more seriously lately. Hate it as much as you want but it makes the sport appear more accesible and really undos much of the elitist snobbishness.

I mean, didn't Teddy Roosevelt hold boxing matches at the white house?

Ali v Inoki

Just face it boxing is among the triarge of sports influences by pro wrestling. We never did set a high bar for ourselves.

What we've learned is that MMA fighters, at least the physically depleted guys he is fighting, are terrible pure boxers (and that's ok), not that the YouTuber has any modicum of actual talent. If he actually had "some skill" he would arrange a fight against a top 7 to 15 cruiserweight boxer because I can assure that doesn't end well and I can further assure you they take the fight with the millions he is offering.

Jake is still fighting better comp than man club fighters. At least he is taking on fighters, a lot of boxers star again 0-0 opponents
