I pretty regularly post what bets I make in the betting forum which you can read up on if you like.
 
It was a lot more exciting before.

The 90s UFCs were fun because of the novelty of the sport.

2003-2016 was a lot of fun (my interest level was 9 then). Zuffa and Pride > Endeavor era. Recent years are watered down events, champs that are uninspiring, and total collapse in talent at the higher weights. The focus on the brand rather than the fighter has led to a lot of mediocrity in the sport. You have a lot more events now full of medium level talent, which replaced the poorly trained, lower-level guys of the past; top level talent is no more frequent than it was in the 2000s, and might actually have decreased.

I am probably five or sixish. I get more interested when there are decent events coming up.
 
I watch most PPV on fast forward these days just watching finishes or decision being read, with the exception of huge fights. For fight night cards I mostly just read the Sherdog play by play these days. For minor league promotions mostly just read results and a few big fight play by plays.

Most of the reason for the change in habits is being older and having more of a life and less time on my hands. I am also a big fan of baseball and basketball but I usually just read box scores these days.
 
Nowadays rather than watch live fights I come to Sherdog to get results and watch the worthwhile fights live.

Long gone are my hardcore days.

Yup. Grew up watching it, trained it, competed (ammys), and still train it occasionally, although I'm way more a grappling guy these days.
And I USED to bet on it. . . but I lost so much money on Big Nog in the UFC that I stopped gambling cold-turkey lol!

Yeah, I had some losses early on but I had to learn to be incredibly disciplined and boring to start winning lol.

I've taken breaks here and there due to mental health, but I love MMA and the direction it's going. It isn't perfect and I still believe the UFC is a monopsony, but the skill is still evolving imo and the fights are getting more and more exciting every yeart imo even with a couple weak divisions.
 
I used to be hardcore. Now I'm "Historical Hardcore" in that I still love the old days, I still rewatch old fights, I still know an obscene amount of MMA history and factoids...but I don't watch contemporary MMA. I literally don't remember the last event I watched. I just read the PBP of events when they happen, I watch the highlights/check gifs, and every once in a while I'll watch a main or co-main if it involves one of the top dogs like Jones or Pereira or Islam or what have you. I hate the UFC productions, I can't stand the commentary team, I don't know or care about 95% of the fighters, way too many fights are boring "cancel out" decisions with guys fighting not to lose rather than fighting to win...I just don't care much for the sport today. Similarly, I'm not that invested in today's hockey but I loved it even just 10 years ago (to say nothing of the hardcore '90s shit), I literally can't watch contemporary basketball but I regularly watch old Jordan Bulls games. I'm generally not (as much of) a fan of current sports.

This is the wrong question.

I love MMA, and like to watch it when I can, and keep up with it.

I hate the UFC as a company though, and they make it harder and harder to care about them.
 
I used to watch every event top to bottom. I still watch most top to the bottom but don’t make it a priority like I used to. I’m perfectly ok with missing most or all of some of the cards. Often I somewhat have it on in the background. Enthusiasm is lower in general, only a handful of cards a year get me really excited.

Nonsensical matchmaking and watered down cards are the main culprits for my waning interest, although I’m still very much a fan.
 
I was a solid 10 right up until the Fertitta's sold and Dana sold out. Since then, I thought I was a 7, but reading over the comments, I'm starting to think that even might be a little high. Maybe 6.

When Dana said "Come to me with 4b..." the writing was on the wall. Once Frank and Lorenzo dipped, Dana didn't really have to worry about fucking friends over anymore. He went full businessman and his passion for MMA turned into a passion for money. Contender Series was a way of Dana profiting off of and locking up MMA talent before it even gets to the UFC, while finding cheap talent to replace more expensive journeymen there.

The UFC basically is boxing now. There are just too many little reasons that culminate in losing interest. Beyond the obvious real-world and those time commitments, there's things like:

- Rankings (and sticking to them) gave way to popularity contests
- Belts are basically worthless
- It's an expensive product
- Bloated roster and fighters cherry-picking or ducking fighters leads to divisional stagnancy
- Dana himself even said he "can't make" guys fight each other (which is fucking absurd really)

If I were a gambling man... I'd say that TKO buys BKFC in the next two years.

Similar but don’t post on here much anymore despite being a lurker. Also, barely breaking even if that on the betting lol.

This thread and the responses like this make me take a step back and really think about how huge MMA and combat sports been a part of my life. From being a fat kid to joining wrestling then eventually MMA and competing in it and being a part of my area’s scene in some ways. It’s honestly crazy.

Nowadays I still watch a ton. But life is much busier on a personal level and being involved in the sport means often times missing out on events to attend local events. I used to be able to memorize event numbers with fight cards and know every fighter in the event and their last couple fights. Now it’s pretty often I don’t know who some fighters are or have to fight finder to remember who they are. I still love watching it as a fan and student but it is definitely much more difficult to watch everything and remember everyobe
 
There's about 10 dudes that keep it interesting. Other than those guys, it's not that Interesting. Poatan is the best thing to happen to ufc in the past few yrs and he stays busy. Give him a bump in pay. He deserves it.

Hw- the champ won't fight the interim champ
 
Let’s just say I would have been just fine ditching Sherdog if 2FA had been shoved down my throat. 🤣

The novelty had already starting wearing off in the late 00’s for me but now the diva / early retirement factor really has me not giving much of af.
 
not that muh if fighters are not elite and fight elite level watching less skilled fighters are not that interesting. that is why pride was big no weight classes so you over there watching 5 10 guy 200 fighting some giant. but islam khamzat volk aspinal umar bilal shavkat are all good fights to watch up and coming wreslers with out elite skills are not interesting i will not say boring but not exiting
 
I am on the East Coast US, if I lived in the Pacific time zone I think I would still be as into it as I was 10-20 years ago. I am have about 10% of the interest, watch the free stuff live, but anything after 10:00pm almost never works, I just can't stay up like I could in my 20's and early 30's.
