The West thought they could negotiate with Russia, the moment they found out they couldn't they began supplying Ukraine with a massive amount of lethal and financial aid while trying to cut themselves from importing Russian stuff.

Shit went awry once GOP got the House back and started blocking lethal aid, then all went to shit once Trump got elected who stopped all lethal aid and has at points even closed intelligence cooperation.

They have been careful in what they supply. Not the best weapons we have. That deal in 2023 was also to supply Israel. You for that? What Republicans wanted to negotiate was US border enforcement and that was denied. More recently a bi-partisan bill to add 55M in new aid to Ukraine is on the table. This war has now gone on for years with no end. I still firmly believe in putting a lot of pressure on China from the entirety of the West to stop supporting Russia in their efforts. I think too much of the West is scared of what will happen economically and otherwise if they really push on Russia and China (who supplies them).

It may not be good for them but I think I heard their economy has actually done better since this started. If Russia is as weak as they seem the US and NATO could wipe them off the map. Our positions seem to be pretty aligned. As far a nukes, Putin knows that using them would spell his demise. His rule would come to an end, as well as Russia as we know it. There is a reason no nuclear weapons have been used since 1945. I could see a country under the rule of religious fundamentalists using them, but Putin is intelligent and pragmatic.

Depends on several things- is Zelensky saying they would not give up an inch of Ukraine a true red line or negotiating tactic ? Can Putin and Zelensky be in same room and remain civil ? If both are civil and it was negotiating not a red line then there will be peace likely within weeks or sooner. If theres peace the left is going to lose it - it will set Trump up as most accomplished / best POTUS since at minimum FDR an Trump set up to go down in History as one of countries greatest presidents ............ barring Trump totally shooting self in foot with his mouth rest of way - which everyone knows he is prone to - but always bounces back somehow.

No POTUS in my lifetime (since 1973) has done nearly what Trump has in his first year (still has over an entire quarter left). He gets this he gets the Nobel peace prize to boot - dont know how he wouldn't get it.
