how good were the bjj black belts of yore?

c'mon: jacare,roger,marcelo,cobrinha,would smoke those oldtimers...like any other progressive sport,todays guys are bigger,stronger, faster...

is that why saulo and xande still gets assraped by rickson till this day?
 
Good thread and makes me wonder about the fact that the field is larger and the game is wider. Wouldn't that create more 'specialist' type fighters?

I would venture to guess that at any club a 1986 champ vs a 2004 champ(both in their prime) in a real match could really go either way right off the hop. But, that in a 'tourny' or 'grand prix' the 1986 fighter is not going to last as his game would be prolly be figured out and shut down within a few fights.
