Media How Good was Sexyama?

Not that great. He had his moments and he seemed to have adapted his judo game to mma pretty well but when he learned he had power in his hands he became obsessed with swangin' and bangin' and you rarely got to see his grappling skills afterwards. Just about the only things I remember about his career are the Saku controversy and the crazy trips he hit Shields with in their fight (he still lost tho). He could have been better had he started earlier, moved to America and taken it more seriously

Akiyama is my all time favorite fighter. But ironically, I never saw any of his fights. I like him because I know him from a TV show called "Return of Superman" where korean celebs take care of their children when their wives get to have 2 days vacation every episode.

This video was pretty cool to highlight Akiyama's career. I was very surprised when I got into Sherdog for the first time and a lot of posters often post Akiyama. Idk if people truly like him here or it's just for the memes.

Bonus:

Akiyama's wife fanboying over Korean actor so Akiyama call the guy to his house. Akiyama sulked when the actor brought a lot of gifts for his wife and kid but none for him.

We all love Sexyama. On top of being the only man alive to transcend heterosexuality, he was a very fun fighter to watch.

He was on some kind of Netflix Korean tv show pretty recently where he competed against all sorts of other athletes

A lot of intrigue and controversy about him during the early part of his career. As he had a lot of exciting wins as well as cheating accusations. Even during his judoka days he was accused of taking Vaseline baths.

Here's an example:

He was a frustrating fighter to watch in the UFC. There were flashes of briliance:

and there was a lot of "what the fook are you doing man" like choosing to stand and bang with Vitor:

To be fair, Vitor didnt let many options to his opponents at 185, much less a grappler.
He was hard to outwrestle for a huge LHW in Tito, imagine an undersized MW in Akiyama.
Even if he took Vitor down, what is he gonna do? Akiyama wasnt even that goot at controlling from the top and Vitor has only been submitted by Jones and Overeem.

Just terrrible match-making by UFC with Akiyama. Crazy to match him up with Belfort coming off two losses to Leben and Bisping

If I had to bang any male fighter it would be Anthony Pettis. He’s way hotter.
