How good was Quinton "Rampage" Jackson?

when he was motivated, he was one of the best. his win over dan henderson is probably his best win. he was just too lazy at times.
It was good, but he was quite overrated in that period. He beat a 38-year old already-declining Chuck and an older, smaller Hendo. Anderson beat Hendo less than a year later much more convincingly.

Haha even Rampage was surprised by that gift of a decision. Lyoto was robbed there...

Haha, one of the best reactions.

After re-watching it though, I can see how Rampage 10-9'd the first 2 rounds.

He was a legit champ, one of the most physical forces in the division. He could have been way more dominant in the pre-jones era if he had focused on his game more. It also didn't help that he was one of those guys who went from a dynamic wrestle-boxer to a one-dimensional head-hunter.

Still, he won me some good high school bets (against guys who hadn't done their research) when he beat Liddell
Yeah, he was overrated my many here, but I agree with this. He had KO power, a very good chin and a wrestling background. If he'd worked more on wrestling, checking leg kicks, etc. he could've been quite good, though Jon Jones beats him 10 out of 10 times in Jones' prime. He didn't seem to train that hard and always had an excuse. He literally blamed undertraining (due to A Team movie) for his performance in one fight then overtraining for the next one.

idk but its a shame he went out like this

lol, i don't know why he even took that fight. you could tell that he didn't want any part of fedor, and let's be real, he took a dive in that fight. if you didn't want to fight fedor, don't take the fight.

Chuck wasn’t declining when he lost to Rampage the second time, he was the ufc champ on top of his game and trying to avenge his earlier loss to rampage in Pride.

I'll take your word for it 'cuz probably not re-watching. Great GIF!

One of the most entertaining fighters in and out of the ring, he didn't just fight to win, he also put on a show for the fans with his sprawl and brawl style, and risky slams.
Became the champ and received quality wins over prime Liddel twice, Vovchanchyn, Randleman, Hendo among others and of course:

Still a legend and an all time fan favorite.

I never thought he was funny and some of those "stunts" he pulled in Japan were downright disrespectful. I was glad to see his career plunge.

well, i'm not going to call rampage better than anderson haha, that's for sure.

slightly off topic but I discovered Rampage once i finally looked up Chuck Liddell record.

UFC really only spoke about Horn obviously cause horn was in UFC but i never heard a peep about rampage.

after discovering it was Quinton who had the win I quickly raced to the internet to find the fight video.

it was AMAZING !! i unlocked a whole new world with lots of new fighters !! I finally knew what Pride was <Moves>

With proper training and motivation we could be talking about near GOAT status at LHW. Many of his "training camps" were simply getting him to lose 30 lbs so he could make 205 with a reasonable 12-15 lb water cut. Had he actually stayed in shape inbetween fights he would have been able to work on gameplans for fights and his cardio would have been better.

His sub defense was iffy early in his career but he shored that up. He destroyed Liddell twice and this was when Chuck seemed invincible. The only guys to put him away with strikes in his prime, Wandy and Rua, looked invincible in Pride yet very average and smaller in the UFC. Jones always would have given him problems but prime Rampage vs a green Jones could have gone Rampage's way.

He wasn't the best for long because he didn't want to be the best for long. His coaches had to search his pockets after he'd go into a store to make sure he wasn't sneaking out chocolate bars!

Not remotely a robbery. 2 of 3 judges gave him the first and second. He outstruck Lyoto 26-16 in the first and 28-11 in the second along with 1 TD. That along with the aggression of Rampage and the timidity/evasiveness of Lyoto equates to a reasonable decision for Rampage.

Lyoto did land much more in the 3rd and had an advantage in power strikes in the first but lost the volume by a wide margin. Could have gone either way.

He did expose Chuck, a good fighter but one who beat almost nothing but grapplers as a UFC champ. I'm talking about their first fight, not the later fight when Chuck was old and basically gave Rampage a huge opening to KO him.

By "outstruck" they obviously counted foot stomps and Rampage swinging wildly in the air.
