How good do you think Raul Rosas Jr. will be?

The UFC is obviously promoting this guy and his dreams of being a triple champ are delusional but his skills seem pretty solid for such a young guy. He got a layup in his UFC debut; does anyone see Christian Rodriguez giving him problems in his second UFC fight?

I think we are seeing more and more young guys who are super impressive these days. Similar to boxing, guys are getting 5-10-15 amateur fights in by 18-20 and starting their pro careers with already a lot of polish and experience. As they age, they grow into the division above and move up. Raul Rosas is solid and like you said, he has a lot of promotion, money and support behind him that most his age don't but there's plenty of 20-22 year olds who I find much more impressive so, so we will see how he develops. He's being given so much opportunity though.

Seems one dimensional. What's going to happen when he runs into someone with better jiu jitsu or one of those dagestanis

I could’ve sworn in his fight against Jay Perrin they said he came from a striking background but then fell in love with grappling. Could’ve been just more of the hype show though lol.

Too soon to tell, gut feeling says he'll wash out with inevitable steps up in competition

Reminds me a bit of chase Hooper, both young kids with good ground games. Maybe he’ll have better striking than chase?

Better than Chase Hooper(ufc debut at 20 years old), not half as good as Jon Jones(ufc debut at 21).

To be fair to him if he was in WMMA like Erin Blanchfield is, he would be rolling through competition like Erin is. But unfortunately, he's not. BW might be the most stacked division in MMA right now.

But best luck to him.

Max Holloway debuted at 19 in the UFC, Robbie Lawler too.

Just from the eye test he seems to be able to handle himself much better than Hooper if that makes sense; Hooper seems like a BJJ nerd who was really good at grappling but was pressured into actual cage fighting but doesn’t particularly like doing it.

Good point. Max came a long way. Who knew Robbie would make a career come back like that too, good for him.

Robbie was good at 19 though...He was always tremendously athletic with solid wrestling, explosive punching, big power and true grit. I think a 20 year old Lawler or Nick Diaz for that matter would give a lot of WWs in the UFC trouble today, maybe not the top 15 or the more talented prospects but I think they were pretty damn good.

Max was always good, in his loss to Poirier he rocked him and many thought he beat Bermudez. People just didn't know what they were watching back then, Max was a huge talent from day 1.

You can bet, with a mug like that, he's the real deal if they're promoting the fuck out of him. Sage, he ain't.

yea that’s a good point, they have completely different grappling styles. rosas style is probably more suited for mma than chase.

yeah but it did look like Robbie was done at one point.

Max was talented, but he didn't really have power nor athletic like Lawler was. I'm going to be honest, I didn't think Max was going to be a champ.

I was on the Max train since day 1, even though he didn't have the KO power, for a volume striker he always had good creativity and pop on his punches. I think Max was always clearly athletic and it showed vs Bermudez, at only like 21 he was able to tangle with a bull of a wrestler, even dropped Bermudez with a spinning hook kick. Shit in Max's debut vs Poirier it looked like he rocked him with a jumping knee too. There's different kinds of athleticism, I always thought Max was quality.

Lawler definitely derailed a bit in his first go in the UFC but he went 4-3 before leaving, one loss being to Diaz, an injury vs Pete Spratt and then I believe he went up to MW where he lost to Evan Tanner but Lawler was never a true MW. Aaron Riley and Chris Lytle were good wins for such a young man though. Outside the UFC he had some really good wins and only lost to elite guys like Jacare, Shields, Tim Kennedy, Lorenz Larkin at a division up in weight. Robbie Lawler never really washed out of the UFC nor did he have as bad of a career outside of it as his record might have implied, he always had the goods but never really put it together until his return to become a champion.

I think the age is the main reason they are getting promoted more than other fighters. Just like Maycee, they are trying to find another young champion or someone that may be able to beat Jones's youngest champion record. Seems like they want to have a high level younger fighter to appeal to the younger fan base, but the younger fan base is more of the social media/tiktok/influencer/youtube generation. So I think to pull them requires more than just having a younger champion.
