How does Modern Warfare with North Korea Play out?

North Korea's million man army will be gone within hours of crossing the DMZ. US has the ultimate firepower from the air, land and water. And I'm talking about conventional warfare not nucular. The surviving soldiers seeing the devastation will retreat and surrender.
Why do you think these things? And why do you think the regime would collapse without using nuclear weapons as a last, desperate measure?

This thread makes me sad for democracy :( The rhetoric from a lot of people in this thread shows me that the population is largely illiterate pertaining to the issues of history, warfare, and major geopolitical issues. I understand that they are very complicated or complex, but votes are predicated on an ability to understand these issues and vote for the right people to help solve them. No wonder we have the mess that we do in Washington... :(
This smugness is why Donald Trump won. You're not actually smarter.

It's not that simple. Unfortunately, it never is.

Agree but it's better we get rid of them.

Why would anyone listen to someone who does this for a living? Why trust an expert in anything, right? We are all the same! No one is smarter than anything about anything! You are the reason America is getting worse, not better.

The people who do it for a living gave us $25,000,000,000,000 in debt, the Iraq War, and a nuclear armed North Korea. So, I agree -- why would anyone listen to someone who does that for a living?

In a vacuum, I agree with you. The DPRK would be better not existing. But I think there is too much else to consider that makes that action less than appealing.

If we had been listened to, the Iraq War wouldn't have happened or would have been fought entirely differently. But arrogant pricks like you thought you knew better than the professionals. Congratulations, you come from a long line of people who think that they are so fucking smart that they like to go charging head first into every act of stupidity that they can find. Be proud.

Well if Vietnam taught us anything it's 1. Do not underestimate your enemy and 2. Do not send your men into their territory on open field.

These days though it's all jets and artillery but realistically how long could Korea hold out with the size difference?

Yeah, but this time, if it happens, you wouldn't have the government fucking the military over every step of the way. At least not under President Trump.

I mean, we only have so many choices. Our other choice -- Clinton the II -- supported the Iraq War. Bernie got fucked. The rest of the GOP field was: religious zealots, wanted to overturn parts of the Civil Rights Act, was a Bush the III, etc.

If there were an Eisenhower or a JFK running, people would have been all over that. Trump seemed like the least bad choice.

You guys that do this for a living and aren't career politicians are failing us by not running for office yourselves. Imagine if a guy like Mattis was running in the GOP field? He'd have cleaned up.

General Keane said that the US can easily win a conventional war against NK without resorting to nucular weapons.

Actually, I totally agree with you. I think our profession has really let down the people of the United States by not at least getting in front of a camera and telling people how it really is. I don't want to impose a military dictatorship or anything, but damnit, we need to start communicating things very clearly to the American people. As citizens, we are all members of a jury. As soldiers, I am accountable as a form of expert witness along with my colleagues. In that duty, I am failing. But this is why I make the statements I make here. I want people to really think about what they're asking for, and I'm going to be critical of people. Myself included.

Edit: For what it's worth, I don't have a taste for either major party. On one hand, you've got some regressionists who deny science under the guise of religion and try to appeal to the lowest common denominator instead of trying to raise the discussion in this country. On the other, you've got some tax-and-spend liberals who seem to poorly manage government and don't trust people outside their own circles. Neither party is well-fit to lead. It's a damn disgrace at this point. We can do so much better, but we don't hold ourselves accountable.

I don't think we need to resort to them, but I believe that they will. I just don't see how they wouldn't use every tool available as we kick their asses all the way to the Great Wall.

The end of North Korea will be swift. Mad Dog isn't going to have any mercy.

You mean sending somebody else charging in. The whole Korean problem might have been solved if MacArthur had his way or WWIII would have already been fought.

I would very much love it if our bloated orange hairpiece could stop ramping up the rhetoric... ffs

North Korea knows that but Kim will use whatever means he has including nukes unless they can be destroyed on a first strike and that could release radiation to fry South Korea and Japan.

George Bush will surely participate in the beatdown.
