How do you explain Poatan is in his prime while Izzy is washed?

Poatan isn't in his prime, he just joined MMA late just like guys like Randy Courture and Yoel Romero. Physically, he is past it also.

Also, he aged differently. The size alone allowed him to have a second career at LHW which Izzy might not be able to replicate.

nobody is in their prime at 37 yrs old
Yeah i mean its pretty clear Poatan is already past his prime, its a shame he came in so late. Mma is a bit special, but it seems that the limit is around 35-36. After that you’re past your prime sadly…

To be fair though his kickboxing career prior to that was obviously at a far higher level than Izzy's, if anything he started having consistently high level fights earlier than Izzy did.

Style I think maybe plays an issue in that I think Izzy's gameplan was always narrower than Alex's, very dependant on being able to roll with punch's and land counters although I do think in part that isnt just about it being more prone to decline but rather opponents increasingly figuring him out, opponents now who likely had Izzy in their sights for years.

Motivation wise as well I think his decision to sit on the win over Alex was a very bad sign and generally seeming to buy into his own hype a lot.

Izzy had 115 fights and 4 wars with Pereira. Obviously his chin won't hold up after that.

his chin looked fine to me, it's his reaction time that is fading and with that, his ability to slip punches. but he hasn't been knocked out cold since his fight with Alex in KB. Alex on the other hand was knocked out cold by Adesanya, rocked by Jiri in their first fight, and dropped by Khalil Rountree recently.

people should be more worried about Pereira falling off a cliff more than Adesanya. Adesanya is gradually fading fighting lesser and lesser competition, Pereira is only getting older and he's facing increasingly higher and younger competition. his time is coming soon too.

dude, try and watch some of his fights in Glory. You will notice his speed and volume.
He is a truly dedicated guy with great genetics, but his speed is not the same now. His timing and precision still look really sharp tho, and power is the last thing you lose - which he has plenty
Maybe thats why you feel hes at his prime, but he aint.

How is it clear that Pereira is past his prime? He is undefeated at LHW and KOing every contender in his division.

Pereira will all of a sudden be washed and out of his prime the second he loses to Ankalaev (if he does), no one even mentions anything about Pereira’s prime because he wins.

A fighters prime to people seems to be an arbitrary period of time when a fighter looks their best

When they start losing conveniently to better fighters it’s because they’re “out of their prime”

People can just change the narrative on the flip of a coin, Izzy went from flatlining Pereira, then to like 95% of people thinking he would absolutely humiliate Strickland, then to a slightly lesser percentage of people thinking he would beat DDP in a fight he actually looked good in, and now finally to “he should just retire bro”

So apparently he wasn’t washed enough to lose to imavov, was looking pretty good in that fight aswell to all of a sudden being washed and past his prime the second Imavov connected on his chin.

Pereira fighting in a weak division, while MW was formerly a weak division but is starting to become one of the most exciting divisions of the UFC.

Age doesn't mean prime. Fighters state can change suddenly.
Look at Volk - he gave Islam hardest fight of his carreer. Then he beat Yair. Then he did stupid move - fought Islam on short notice. That's when his peak and prime ended. Then when he was past his prime he fought Topuria. BUT but he won first round - no he didn't. They did jack shit first round they were feeling each other.
That's why I appreciate Topuria beating Max more over Volk because Holloway was still in his prime when he fought Ilia.
Alex wasn't.

Alex has a nuclear left. A different headspace, nothing really seems to affect the guy. Stoic af. That alone makes a difference.

His chin has clearly declined by a good amount. Imavov doesn't have much power in his hands at all and he badly hurt Adesanya with a single shot. Imavov had never dropped anyone like that in the UFC before, despite landing plenty of clean shots on his opponents. Strickland never drops anyone with single shots, yet he dropped Adesanya with one. Bad news.

A few years ago Adesanya was taking clean shots from Pereira without going down. Now he gets hurt almost every time he gets touched.

Getting hurt by Rountree and Jiri is different than getting hurt by Imavov and Strickland. And Pereira's chin was never on the level of Adesanya's in the first place.

Karma exists?

Adesanya in his Prime wanted to humiliate Pereira of I have everything and Pereira has nothing.

Life has taught Adesanya not to want to humiliate people when things are going well for you?

Near 40 year olds are not in their prime in any sport. Alex is not in his prime
