How do Royal Marines compare to US Marines?

The United States Marine Corps is the most potent Infantry in the entire world and is a core element in the Greatest Fighting Force the World has ever seen, the United States Navy. To even compare Canadas Marines to US Marines isn't just dishonest, it's absolutely absurd.

There is no comparison.

lol

GTFO here with that nonsense.

The greatest fighting force in the world is the US Army, and the Marines, while potent, are too small to actually prosecute substantial wars on their own. Even as infantry, the Marines don't even begin to scale to the Army National Guard, much less the active duty Army.

Hey, quick. Who lives on the ocean? Fucking no one.

Which branch executed the greatest amphibious landing and invasion in the history of man? BZZZZZT! It was the Army.

lol

Hooooooo Lawd.

US Navy:

Best SF in the world. (SEAL, SWCC)
Best Navy in the world. (Ships, Carriers, Subs, Etc.)
Best Infantry in the world. (Naval Infrantry, USMC)
2nd Best Air Force in the world (Second only to the USAF)

US Navy is anywhere and everywhere, ready to roll on anything at any given time. Land, Sea, ect.

The Army is good too, though :) But it's no Navy.

Just saw your last addition. You're correct... But these days, the US relies on the Navy for Amphibious Assault. A MEU is rolling through anything you put in front of it when it lands...

The US Navy has the second biggest Air Force in the world?

lol. Best at self promotion, writing gaudy, tacky ass books, airing dirty laundry and punching out pro wrestlers, maybe. =X

Best Infantry in the world. (Naval Infrantry, USMC)

Pfft. By best Infantry, you mean United States Army Airborne Rangers.

Army can do amphibious assault (btw, when was the last opposed one?) I'd like to see Marines do an Airborne landing field seizure.

2nd Best Air Force in the world (Second only to the USAF)

That's right, that should be the Navy motto, "Second Best!"

Maybe not 2nd biggest, but certainly the 2nd best.

Wow. Where is all that money coming from?

EDIT: Did some homework!!!

It really is no contest. The US military has such a clear dominance on military technology, education, and capabilities it's not even funny.

The US is responsible for 41% of global military expenditures. That's right the US is responsible for almost half of the world's military expenditures. The U.S. spends more on defense than the next seven countries combined... $620 BILLION.

The US has the second largest active military in the world after China. This is complemented by the US's air and naval forces. Speaking of which:

The US Navy has the SECOND largest Air Force in the world. First is the US Air Force. To build on this point the US has air supremacy in every situation. Due to the locations of our carriers and air bases around the world we are able to scramble fighters almost anywhere in the world within an hour.

The US has the most aircraft carriers in the world BY FAR at 10. Second place is Italy with 2. The US has as many carriers in service as the rest of the world. Think of each one as a mobile air force base. These are all Nimitz-class carriers, meaning they are a class of super-carriers that can hold about 90 planes each, travel at around 30 knots, and house 2 nuclear reactors for propulsion. These motherfuckers can go over 20 years without refueling! That means the US has 10 mobile air force bases that essentially never rests. The US is the undisputed Queen Bitch of the seas.

And that's only the carriers. Globally, there are 28 Cruisers and 150 Destroyers. The US owns 22 of those Cruisers and 62 of those Destroyers.

The US has the biggest air force, bar none. Technologically, the Russians have come out with an almost equivalent air fighter but the US has a much larger air force and the logistical capability to fight anywhere efficiently.

As if all these conventional weapons aren't enough, the US's nuclear capabilities are mind-boggling. Everyone knows the US and Russia generally have the same amount of nuclear weapons (around 5,000) but the US's delivery systems are unparalleled. The US holds 71 of 134 total nuclear powered submarines in the world.

Out of these 71, 18 are Ohio-class. These are capable of holding 24 Trident SLBM missiles that each hold up to 8 MIRV (multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicle) nuclear warheads. Each of these MIRV warheads hold a firepower of 100 kilotons of TNT. That means each of these subs could hold 24 missiles that can each separate into 8 nuclear warheads, totaling 192 warheads, each with a range of 4,600 miles. That means a sub off of NYC could hit Anchorage. You read that right. We essentially have 18 mobile nuclear launch bases that can move underwater.

Say there is knowledge of an impending nuclear attack by, say, North Korea. Suppose that US satellites saw North Koreans fueling the missiles and that they were going to launch a warhead. Before they were even done fueling, I am sure the US would have a few subs in the area and be capable of independently targeting each major city and military site in North Korea and nuking them. If they wanted to.

TL:DR The US is Queen Bitch of the world. Militarily.

Apples & oranges. Although I'm sure the Rangers will beg to differ in having the best infantry.

We shall settle this matter over beers when you're in Seattle, Good Sir!

That's actually not really accurate.

What the rest of the world calls "aircraft carriers," the US Navy calls "amphibious assault ships." US Navy amphibious assault ships are generally much larger, displace more and are much more capable than the Rest of the World's (RoW) so-called "aircraft carriers" including those 2 Italian vessels. The US Navy has 9 of those, just for the Marines.

On top of those 9 ships, the Navy has these 10 other things that we Americans call Aircraft Carriers. The ROW doesn't have anything close to one of these (they don't have anything close to the 9 amphibious assault vessels in the first place.)

Are you asking who would win in a fight or who are better soldiers on an individual level? It's like the argument about quality of life, yes our GDP beats everyone in the world but on an individual level we don't compare to places like Sweden, Norway, etc.

US Marines would tool most people due to funding, weapons, numbers, and a whole host of other factors but having worked with them personally, the average one is none too bright. That said I only ever worked with your average grunt and never SF guys who I assume are probably a lot more intelligent.

As for RM vs USMC, who cares man, we're on the same side and they've had our back for a good while now, I've worked with a load of British army guys and they were always cool with me, for the sake of diplomacy and not pissing off the one strong military in the world who always have our back I'm calling it a tie.

In reality arguing over who are better soldiers almost always comes down to the individual in question (it's like the wrestling vs BJJ argument).

Well, that's very diplomatic of you...

Yeah but this is Sherdog. Where anything American isn't now, never was, and never will be the best at anything.

That's like comparing Michael Jordan to Spud Webb.

Royal Marines are cans just like the rest of their country.
