How do Royal Marines compare to US Marines?

I can understand why you'd think that the Royal Marines are bad asses. But what makes you think that US Marines aren't the same?

They are pretty much the same as far as Infantry goes. The American Marines are just a much bigger organization. It has equivalents to the Royal Marines and apparently also has two types of American Marines that are considered much better than Royal Marines (Marine Force Recon and Marine Raiders).

Or at least that's what I've learned from this thread...

Small world! Do you happen to remember what years he was in? I got out of SOI just as the unit activated. So I got to experience the master clusterfuck that goes along with it. We were put under 8th Marines and got shit on a lot. But we were the most trained battalion in Camp Lejeune by the time we deployed. Lots of boot Sgts in the battalion, but I was super lucky to have guys who served with 2nd Recon in Fallujah as my squad leader and company mssgt. Left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

He transferred to 1/9 later on. Probably late 2010. He went there with two of the snipers that got reprimanded for peeing on dead people. He got out shortly after and has been a private contractor ever since.

Both the Royal Marines and the USMC are world class Bad Asses. Anyone who thinks differently is a retard.

Yeah, just some people still like to think their country has to best everything when in reality most of the top countries are on the same area on the learning curve. That goes for Special Forces as well. There aren't any secret military tactics or Magic Kung Fu. The only real difference is resources/budget...

Royal Marines, USMC, Special Forces in US Army and Navy SEALS are all elite in their fields. Probably other groups in other militaries that also qualify but that's what I can think of right now.

I left in August of 2010 WPNS Company, which held STA Platoon instead of H&S like normal. So I might have known him. He must have went on 24th MEU with us. I guess corpse shit is common. I had blown off hands waved at me and the unit we ripped with would put insurgents bodies on the front of trucks and drive through the city with them. Pretty twisted shit.

Small world though.

I met some royal marines, to be blunt they were total shitbags. Unprofessional and lazier than even the most disgruntled 0311 terminal lance.

Probably met some bad apples, but i wasn't impressed by their command either.

Was with 3/8 in afghan in 08. Worked with royal marines and Scot snipers. I think they are very similar to us. Besides a few tactics and general mindset they were laid back and took it to the Taliban when needed

Is the Driftwood still around?

The Driftwood will always be there as long as Geiger keeps sending boots to Lejeune. My friends and I got maced and the police called because my drunk friend wanted to talk shit to a stripper. We all ended up running. He and one other guy swam the river. One time in traffic I was on the bridge and saw a no shit 10 ft gator swimming right there.

haha fucking camp geiger. if ever there was a place where your hopes and dreams of the marine corps went to die it was there.

There's not much else to do for a Geiger Tiger to be fair. Tuck your shirt in, show off the ridiculous tan line on your high n tight, and hit the D-Wood with your buddies.

We used to blow our money at La Mirage when I was in Geiger. Driftwood was too far of a taxi drive. I really don't miss those days. It's amazing how differently I got treated after I got a CAR in Ramadi compared to being boot. It's a whole different Marine Corps.
