How did Anthony Smith lasted 5 rounds against Jones and Gane didn't last 3-4 mins?

I know that was the time Jones wasn't the Jones we knew! Absolutely wasn't in his peak after the second Gustaffson fight i'd believe. Smith fight was weird. Thiago done pretty well against him. Reyes beat him i still think to this day, idk what the hell happened with Reyes since then but he gave Jones the fight of his life at UFC 247!

Gane isn't a good ground fighter we all know that. But still how did Smith managed to survive 5 rounds against even a "slower" Jones? Respect men.

Smith is tougher than people give him credit for. The guy has been in there with everyone and is never an easy out. He's also a legit BJJ blackbelt and has always had good sub defense.

At the same time, it looked like Jon was pretty much just going through the motions in that fight. He dominated Smith the first couple rounds and then kinda just took his foot off the gas and chilled. A hungry motivated Jones likely puts Smith away but he was content to just cruise through that one.

people will blast the fact that Jones didn't really care about his last couple of fights but its true. It's really hard to get up for a fight against Anthony Smith or Dominick Reyes after 10+ years of fighting guys like Rampage, Lyoto, Shogun, Rashad Evans, Bader, Gus x2, Glover, Vitor Belfort, Chael, DC x2, etc and then point fighting hungry guys that you don't care about when there is literally hours of footage on your own deficiencies
