How come Till moves up 6 spots in the rankings after missing weight?

Because

As far as I know, the state athletic commission in Nevada will sanction a contest up to one pound over unless it is for a title in which the contestant must be on weight. We all know this.

This makes me wonder how the rules are in england. If this contest were still agreed on in Nevada then I would assume that it would be treated as a catch weight and therefore should have no effect on rankings in an established weight class if the company were taking that ruling into consideration.

If the company adjusts rankings on fights that are not taking place in the weight class listed then in my opinion they are rewarding bad behavior which makes the company seem unprofessional. I know that sometimes there are valid reasons for missing weight but at the end of the day, they still missed weight and the other fighter did not. They compensate the fighter who did make weight but the rankings should not change from the result of fight that takes place outside of a weight class.

This should be applied to everyone in my opinion. But we all know that some people can throw dolly's threw bus windows and others can't turn down a fight or two. I guess the commission is only respected to a point and the rankings are worthless.

Just last week there was huge outrage over Mackenzie Dern getting ranked after missing weight, so they took her off the rankings.

But now Till has moved up 6 spots in the rankings, even leapfrogging a guy in Covington who is fighting for the interim title, and nobody bats an eye.

What's the diff?

Dern missed weight by 7 pounds and fat cow essentially didn't even try to make weight. That fight should not have even happened.

Till missed weight but at least he was closer and did put in some effort to get down.

I remember Dana being livid about Hendricks' and Gastelum's weight issues yet he barely said anything about Dern and Till. I take that to mean they'll be getting pushed.

Nevada does not require a fight to be recorded as a catchweight if one fighter misses weight. A catchweight is when both fighters agree to the special weight ahead of time, and then there's no penalty. This was a welterweight bout where one fighter missed weight and his opponent agreed to take the fine and proceed with the welterweight bout.

None of this has anything to do with the rankings, nor should it because the rankings are not a computer algorithm. You can't tell the media members voting on the rankings to pretend they didn't see the fight, because they saw it, it changed their opinion on how good they think Till is, and the rankings are based on subjective opinion. Till also should not be removed from the rankings because he had a good excuse for not making weight.

Here's the funny thing...

Mackenzie went into that fight with "soft" weight, lets be honest. That wasn't an extra 7lbs of muscle she was carrying. Cooper had the bigger arms and broader shoulders. Dern goes out and gets a HL reel finish and she can't move up the rankings.

Then you have Till, who looked like a MW in there, who has openly bragged about cutting crazy weight, saying it should be "illegal" to do what he does. He goes out there and wins a hotly disputed decision in a boring fight... and he goes up 6 places!
