Unfortunately RDA missed a great opportunity to fight Conor. He will gain more fans as he keeps winning.
Very true, totally agreed. RDA is robotic, he has the same words for every interview, he repeats himself too much, and his English is good. But he just re-hashes the same stuff over and over, he has a robotic personality. Not to mention I think a lot of fans still remember him getting knocked out cold brutally by Stephens, and having his face broken in half and submitted by Clay Guida.. his face literally broken in half.Everyone wants to blame the UFC or the fans. The simple explanation is that he lacks charisma and doesn't put much effort into marketing, nor does he have a particularly exciting or dramatic style. Those are the three biggest reasons some fighters are more popular than others. I get that it's the promotions job to promote him, and I do think they could do a better job of promoting RDA. But from what I see, those efforts act as a multiplier of a fighter's natural charisma and marketing efforts, and thus in RDA's case would likely only produce marginal results. If he put more effort into interacting with media, he'd be more popular.
FWIW, he isn't all that unpopular, especially on Sherdog, where few fans seem to have a problem with him. Most seem to recognize that he is on quite a tear.
One last thing to consider is the Khabib factor. Khabib is the only guy to beat him in his last ten or eleven fights, but Khabib ragdolled him around the ring. Beating Khabib or having Khabib drop out of the long term title picture would remove a cloud over his LW reign.
ufc 200 is on saturday............Even on sherdog ( presumably hardcore fan), he doesn't get much attention and he will fight tomorrow.
so how popular can dos anjos attain in his ufc career.?
I can respect that, and I personally like RDA. But that doesn't conflict at all with the explanation as to why he isn't more popular.
I don't know what to tell you Inga, I absolutely love the guy as a fighter his persona is really no different than a lot of mma fighters who tend to be more introverted. He's not popular but he's not vastly hated either he's he's batting .500 in mma popularity to me.
like Aldo he has the personality of a potato
