How come Andrei Arlovski is still fighting?

Pretty sure he makes a few hundred thousand per fight.

He made 320,000 from his last fight alone.

You would probably still be fighting if you were him too when you make almost 1/3rd of a million per fight.
his last 2 fights weren't disclosed pay.

but yeah, money is a pretty good incentive. also hard to figure out what to do the rest of your life at age 41...

That fight with Rothwell was, pretty awful looking though

he's aged well, makes good money

He gets 300k base and fights about 3 times a year. That's a decent chunk of change. And he's only been finished once in his last 9 so he isn't getting destroyed.

he gets paid good. trained with guys like allistar who clearly don't know when to call it quits.

First of all real mma fans knows that Andrei Arlovski surpassed his time already in 2006 after he lost against Tim Sylvia twice. He made his biggest fight against Fedor 2009 and was somehow close to best Fedor until he got ko:d after a flying knee attempt

Since then he have just beated some decent names. Many losses in a row but still somehow keep fighting

I must give him cred for his body shape, no dad bods whatsoever in sight. Will he retire if he will lose his next bout or keep fighting??

Second question, who do you want him to fight before he will retire?
He should be 2-1 in his last 3. He was completely robbed against Sakai.

It's embarrassing but true that Arlovski is still relevant in 2020.

Yes, and his style gave Fedor some trouble at first. But I also think Arlovski’s success in that fight is a bit overstated. He never landed anything significant, or had Fedor hurt or rocked. And we’re talking about a 3 minute period of time roughly. Fight ended mid-way through Round 1.
yeah, I remember being at the edge of my chair during that fight and thinking "this doesn't look good for fedor" until the ko, but watching slow-mo gifs after the figth it became clear arlovski didn't land shit.

One could ask "Why are you still posting?"

Perhaps not a dad bod, but his physique has changed radically from when he was in his prime. He was once my favorite fighter. I loved his finesse and fluid movements, and how light he was on his feet. Because of his boxing skills, he can still catch skilled opponents and hurt them, but its depressing for me to watch him fight remembering how he once was.

AA is my all time favorite fighter, has been since his early UFC days, and I'm not particularly certain why, even, just something about him I've always liked.

I think it's a little unfair to say after 2006 he was done, he had a pretty respectable run from 2011-2013. Not necessarily championship caliber, but respectable.

I do wish he'd retire at this point, but he's making decent money to do it a couple times a year, and probably doesn't have too many other options. Dude lead a pretty expensive lifestyle back in the day during his peak, probably burned thru a lot of cash.

Fighting is good for Andre. It's 2020 and he's looking like a young Mike Perry.

i
Perhaps not so good. Its taken a massive toll on his face, probably more than any other fighter.

Close to best Fedor... People are still pushing this narrative? He landed nothing and got brutally KOed.
Not domination, but Andre was definitely landing and winning the striking battle before the end. You can watch it again on YouTube.

Because he wants to?

Some fighters just love fighting and retire way too late.

GSP gets a lotta shit but he retired at the right time. Fedor, Silva, BJ and other OG greats pushed themselves way too far.
True, and I agree, but even inferring that Silva and Fedor's delayed-retirements are comparable to BJ's is unfair to them both.

Was wondering the same thing when I saw his latest fight announced. For some people it is a way of life, plus $$$. Hard to give up what you love and also what pays your bills I guess.

I find it surprising that the UFC is cool with paying him as much as they do to be buried on the prelims these days. Especially as tight as they can be sometimes on fighter pay. I know it's probably loyalty/respect and I could understand allowing it to happen a few times but it seems he's been in that situation for a few years now.
HW is a division suffering from a paucity in talent. Keeping steady, viable big names like him around helps address that a bit, I guess. ('Cept for Reem, who's still pretty good IMO.)

He is tall, and doesn't have to think for a living, why not?

At this point, it is obviously just for money.

He doesn't even look like he gives a shit when he fights for the past 4 years.

He actually has been robbed quite a few times in those years, but because those fights were dogshit boring and he doesn't actually look like he is there to win, I don't think it really matters.

Baffled by his current employment. He's not a good return on investment. He's on a big pay check and just get's his ass kicked with an occasional win.

He's not even a big draw anymore. Good for him though.

He's a good name for people to have on their record. Plus he's a tough motherfucker so he usually gives them good experience too.

I mean the guy is probably the only one at this point to have been on and off their roster for the amount of time he's been. He still has a better winning percentage than bj had
