Hating people you never met is pretty stupid, but TS is probably the last person who should call out others for this.

Really happy for her. I'm not a big fan, but that doesn't mean I don't respect her accomplishment. Glad she gets to celebrate with her family.

Same for me as a fighter. On a personal level it's a different story. It seems like being a parent is a high priority for her. The grandma issue is a soft spot for me. She's also handled the Strickland stuff like a real pro. She seems like a really nice lady.

On a separate note is the fact that in the U.S., older people seem to be sort of marginalized. I'm grateful to have some people in their 70's, one in their eighties and one who is 92 that I speak to on a regular basis. My life is better because of those relationships.

I try to focus more on the fighter than the person. Jon Jones is a great fighter but he's hard to root for personally. Strickland in a sneaky way has become very good. His style can be a bit boring at times, especially for the casual fan looking for rockem sockem robots. He's great defensively and his jab is amazing but his ouput is a bit low and he plays it safe. He uses his shtick to drum up interest with a certain sector of the fanbase. Colby is a different story. He's made a career of beating up aged veterans and two losses with Usman. I think the top of the division is starting to pass him by. Colby trying to get a fight with Wonderboy is a new low. If he fought Shavkat, I don't think it would be a competitive fight.

Grandparents are awesome people ... shame most of us don't know them for too long.

My granddads both gone before I was born. Grandmas were like 60-70 when I was born and both couldn't read or write. Those are my parents parents. But I don't have that much connection to them.
I don't know what my dads dad looks like, no picture. My moms dad is built like me and got some charactersitics of me.

Well for one, it's not "crazy" and it's not "hate" to criticize a fighter's skillset or lack of as was clearly seen in that fight. We need to stop deflecting any criticism of a skillset of a fighter or their fight IQ as "hate"

Number two, the attack is not on her moral compass as a human being as she seems like a stand up person, but that fight had no business being on the main card let alone the co-main.

Not saying anything about Pennington, but I'm sure many villians in the history of time have done great things for their grandma or even family. Using that as an example to not hate on someone, is kinda bush league. I bet even Hitler loved his gammie.

I dont hate her... but its her own fault for not making me feel anything about her fighting other than boredom. Theres plenty of other female fighters that have something going for them that makes you at least care about them. Rocky.. well.. shes just there.

I haven't heard much vitriol directed at Pennington as a person. Pretty much all of the criticism I have seen has been due to her fighting style - it's fucking dull. And the kicker is, if she LISTENED to her coaches she would probably be more exciting! They were telling her for three rounds straight in that title fight; STOP CLINCHING and THROW HANDS, Mayra was tired as fuck going into the 4th/5th and could've easily been TKO'd. But she didn't and we all had to endure that slog.
I don't think it's proper to bring in personality to criticize someone's fighting style - those things can have very little to do with one another. It's really sweet she gave the belt to her grams.

Pennington is a warrior, I have nothing but respect for her. I think she needs to fight Peña then angle herself for a fight against the 125lbs champion. Peña, Grasso, Shevchenko and Holm are all fights that cement a good legacy for her in the UFC.

I don’t think anyone hates her. It’s just that she isn’t the best fighter. She got the title because she stuck around long enough. The 135 division is so dead. Half the girls retired and the other half left for Bellator.
