How big is Adesanya for his weightclass?

All the champions are relatively "big" for their weight class, bigger than average.

Is Israel a gigantic weight bully? No, not in particular. A lot of the guys he fought are probably heavier than him. He is not any bigger than most elite MWs.

Israel doesn't seem like he cuts a lot of weight. He has good reach and is very technical which makes him fight "tall" effectively.

Israel also fights southpaw very often, and it is not uncommon for southpaw fighters to hit guys a bit further. This can give the impression that they are a bit longer than they are.

He saw Jan as the easiest fight he could take and was whooped. Jan as much as I like him was legit the weakest lhw champ we have had in years. Glover destroyed him at 400
He wasn't whooped.
In fact I thought he won some of the stand up battles.
It was BORING. Even when Jan took him down he did NO damage.
It was sparring.

Israel is a small MW. Usman is a big WW. Sometimes I thought they could switch.
Perriera is a giant MW. His weight is so well distributed that he weighs a good bit more than he looks. It's going to be interesting to see if Adysena is too fast. What if he runs around the cage and Alex can't catch him? It's been a while since Israel really engaged someone. He's been playing it safe and boring since Costa.
Whittaker 1, Costa, Brunson, and Gastelum he was exciting. Then, man....

Jan was the only LHW champion we had in years. Before that Jon was the champion for 9 years with DC as a place holder in between. Before that Shogun lost it in his first defense, Lyoto should have lost it in his first. Rashad lost it in his first, Forest lost in his first and Rampage lost in his second.

I was looking this video of Adesanya standing next to Cannonier who used to be a heavyweight, and Adesanya looks at leats 1 weightclass bigger, thats crazy

And he is known for being very good at controlling distance and stuff, but he always got the height and reach advantage and I think thats where most of his succed comes from, when he fought Jan you could see he wasnt able to control his distance like he does with the smaller middleweight guys

Thats why Im looking forward to see his fight with Pereira who looks like his same size, Im very interested with that fight

Tall and Big isn't always the same. Nate is tall for LW but not Big for LW. Cory Hill was super tall for LW but not big.

lol I wasn't saying anything bad about him! He just really is thin... man has arms half the size of mine and I am 5'11 190... he is still a great fighter... I just don't think he is Huge like TS. he didnt even hit 205 for the Jan fight... 197? thats not a big dude for MW.

It's true he's not a big MW compared to Rockhold, Costa, etc but his overall frame is fairly big, there's just not a whole lotta beach muscle attached to it. To put it another way, when you look at how lean he is there is simply no way Izzy could make WW as he's right down to the wood already at MW.

He's too lean to be considered a huge MW, but he's still reasonably big.

I think the issue in the past with Anderson was more that you had a lot of the best potential MW's fighting at LHW like Shogun, Machida and Rashad. Thats not so much the case anymore as fighters that size generally go to MW now.

lol I feel like people on this forum just pull random made up things out of their butts.

"Fighter X is big for his weight class. Fighter Y is small for his weight class."

Shut up. You don't know their bone/muscle density. You don't know their actual in-cage weights. Fighters love to lie about that kind of stuff too. Jon Jones would always talk about how much lower his in-cage fighting weight is and then when some UFC events released data on that (I believe for the Gustafsson rematch), it turns out he's actually as heavy as we thought he is.

You can make judgments on their frames but even that can be deceptive based on muscle group sizes.

He weighed in at 200 pounds when he fought Jan. That doesn't really make him a huge MW if he's only cutting 15 pounds.

Anderson competed at WW the very same year he became MW champ. He was walking around at 190lbs.

To speculate that Rashad, let alone Shogun, could peform at their best at 185 is pure nonsense. But if you want to speculare like that, then compare Anderson with WWs too. Or rather...just cut the blatant bias when it comes to discredit Silva.

You're either trolling or blind. Take your pick

I refuse to take people seriously who make these posts then show absolutely nothing to prove they're too big or small for the weightclass.

Are you gonna go all in and show us any evidence or just a picture of Adesanya standing face to face with fighters he's TALLER than.

choose 1 deluded shertarder

- ass whupped as you say
- or had hardly a scratch on him and as the decision was read was making bodyguard jokes with Jan

Choose carefully shertarder!

He's what's known in the literature as thin but wiry.
And tall.

Pretty big, no way a middleweight should be 6’4 with an 80in reach
Hopefully one day people will understand the difference between height/reach and size.
Adesanya is built like a basketball player:
6'4 200 lbs with a 80 inches wingspan = Bradley Beal.
He aint big for the weightclass, he makes weight easily and weighed in at 200.5 lbs when he fought Jan. Most MW's are heavier than that.

He has got bigger in last 2 years, more muscular, when he first came to UFC he was more skinny, but I feel he has gotten bigger.

He is actually average size for his weight class. Yes, he is tall but walks around but he said on Joe Rogan's podcast a few years ago his “walk around weight” is about 203lbs. There are Welterweights that walk around at this weight.

Dude the Cleveland Indians have a 6"5 pitcher at 165lbs Izzy is 185 after cutting 15-20lbs. That dude looks like he's a corpse.
using the jan fight as an idicator of his walk around, he came into a 205 fight at 199. so it stands to reason he only cuts about 14 pounds
