How bad is Ben Askren's boxing really?

We're all picking Jake Paul to beat him but let's really think about it. Askren has been training striking every day, sparring pro fighters, for 10+ years with Anthony Pettis, Tyron Woodley, Mighty Mouse, and RDA. He's a championship athlete in 2 different sports. People are acting like he's so bad that he'd get KOd by random in-shape guys at the local cross fit gym or random street fighters.

Is it really possible to train striking everyday for 10 years at a professional and be that bad? Or is it more realistic that he's actually very good compared to the average person, and just looks really bad against pro fighters?
Imagine asking this question out loud when we have tape of his fights. My striking looks better than Ben's and I haven't thrown a strike in more than 20 years. If you can't watch video of him striking and form an opinion... Oof.

I'm sure it wasn't instant, but since I'm not Ben nor his doctor I'm not going to make after-the-fact diagnoses and use it as excuse for Ben's boxing 10 years ago. You shouldn't either.

I'm sure it's a coincidence that in all those clips he seems to have no upper body mobility at all. He's moving exactly like someone who has a shot hip. Add to that the confirmed hip replacement surgery and you don't have to be Einstein to draw conclusions

Dandois has better hands than Funky

Fuck this is the fight to make!

Maia was definitely winning those exchanges. He was landing the cleaner/heavier head shots and doing A TON of great body work that the commentary ignored. He just didn't cut up Ben's face, where as Bens glancing shots marked up Maia's face and made the striking look more even than it was.
Ben was landing cleaning inside uppercuts. Those, and the little gnp he landed in the first, is what I believe marked up Maia so much.

Maia is my favorite fighter, just in case people try to say im a funky fanboy...

the training doesn't make much of a difference when it comes to anatomy. Some people just don't move right, think cole miller for example. Askren is going to get destroyed by paul.

jake literally has a 3 year head start lol.
3 years of pure boxing vs a decade of casual boxing. That's where the curiosiy lies. It's not a forgone conclusion that Jake beats him. His first 2 fights were against non fighters doing boxing for the first time. And Nate is an athlete with ZERO boxing. Ben has fought highly trained fighters all his career.

You don't remember the professional fighter Jake Shields losing on "Bully Beatdown" in the boxing to some random guy off the street after he'd had a decade of training boxing with Gilbert and the Diaz Bros?

This. People underestimate how horrible standing some of these grapplers are

Ben is going to get knocked the eff out or get spanked silly from any amateur in boxing...

he got knocked out by demian maia

without the threat of the takedown, the guy has nothing to make strikers tentative
so in a boxing ring, i imagine he'll get knocked out

plus isn't he coming off major hip surgery or something? i bet the guy can't even more properly

jake paul will have advantages in size, speed, power
ben is a tough guy who is a world class athlete and will probably have better cardio, but we'll see what happens...

Only way for him to not get beat up as bad is to fight super close and dirty box.

But I gotta feeling we'll see another classic meme from Ben...

All the pressure is on Jake though and Ben doesn't give a fuck as long as he's getting paid. Btw, I would find it more hysterical if Jake gets knocked the fuck out by Ben in a fight where he should easily win. That's actually worse for Jake, than Ben getting knocked the fuck out...
