How bad is Ben Askren's boxing really?

Stop reading at picking jake paul to beat him...

Im not....askren is a professional..jake is not...

Ben has been hitting pads /bags and sparring for atleast a decade.....

He just needs to focus on boxing alone for several months and he'll be fine...he has to clean it up.. The rest is in place already as far as work ethic and mentality/heart of a fighter..hes not gunna be a spazzing out from nerves like nate robinson was..hes also not starting from.the rock bottom..he knows how.to throw strikes and defend..

That video did your point no favours whatsoever. If that is the best punching you can show of Ben Askren then I'm even more convinced he's getting stopped.

Not good for an mma fighter but let’s not pretend he doesn’t train boxing or at least has an advantage over your average Joe. He would box the piss out of your average Joe easily. His defense isn’t that bad either.

His boxing is complete garbage. There's average joes who could easily outbox Askren with zero training. Just because he trains boxing doesn't mean he's in any way good at it or even dedicated to it.

Askren has been fairly honest about how little he trained actual MMA striking over the years, preferring instead to rely on his wrestling. But this isn't even MMA striking. It's boxing. Why would Askren have been training boxing, if he barely even trained MMA striking?

I'm not sure why you used quotation marks there either.

Paul won his professional debut in January when he stopped Ali Eson Gib in 1 round. He is trained by former world title challenger BJ Flores who has been very pleased with the progress Paul has made.

“He has an excellent jab and left hand. He understands how to break his man down by changing levels and jabbing to the body to set up other combinations. He has excellent speed and power and punches with both his legs and body,” said Flores. “He really works his ass off and is fearless. Jake will surprise a lot of people on Saturday night!”

Flores believes that the 23-year-old Paul is much more advanced in the sport than other recent Youtube crossover fighters. He has been in the ring sparring with several top level professional fighters and has held his own.

“He has sparred over 250 rounds in total. 4-6 rounds at a time with at least 55 professionals over the last 12 months. As sure as the sun will come up tomorrow, Jake will win by KO!” Flores told BoxingScene.com.

Those fighters include names such as Ronald Ellis, J’Leon Love, Hasim Rahman Jr, and Ahmed Elbiali.

According to Flores, the time Paul has spent in the ring with top level competition has been the key to his rapid development.

“Jake’s ring IQ is extremely high for his level of experience. The reason for this is hundreds of rounds with very good professional fighters over the last 12 months. Jake has been in very high level sparring with heavyweights, cruiserweights and light heavyweights. He is learning very quickly how to adapt to different styles . Saturday night won’t last long. Do not get up to get a drink,” said Flores.

Brother you are representing in this thread, there's no point with half these sherdoggers though, they don't watch or understand boxing. They will see.

Ben Askren can just move backwards until Jake is out of breath

Probably some of the worst in MMA history which should still be enough to beat Jake Paul

Did you watch the Maia fight? My god. Maybe it's because he wasn't worried about being grappled so he just did stupid shit but he looked very awkward.

Askren's boxing is so bad, that his boxing makes Ronda Rousey's boxing looks like punches from a Golden Gloves Champion.

Its not meant to be a best example...its shows the guy can punch and is familiar with drilling striking hes not a retired NBA Player learning how to punch... Those arent normal punch mits....there more difficult and less predictable

He would just need to refine his punches over the next 3 months

His striking is as good as Conor grapling.

Both fighters by choice failed to develop their weak points.

OP says everyone is picking paul, is that true? I can see Paul with the edge early and Ben gassing him out. I dont know if Ben can ko him, but he can dominate late
There's no indication that Jake Paul gasses out, whereas Ben looked tired and uncomfortable striking against Maia, I know they grappled too, but Ben trains less striking than Jake Paul, if anyone's gonna gass from boxing I think it will be Ben

From watching his fights I honestly reckon I could ask Askren to punch me in the face as hard as he could and he'd either miss or I wouldn't even be hurt from it

i think ben has put on the boxing gloves enough and sparred with pro's at the gym.

to a point where he thinks its laughable a you tube kid could beat him.

he has been a conditioned athlete since paul was riding a bicycle with training wheels.

i sure fuckin hope he wins. war funky!

They fought the first two rounds mostly on the feet and it was mostly even. Maia's technique looks smoother but Askren did as much damage.

Everything about Askren looks visually worse which is why I think people can't judge him fairly.

Maia was definitely winning those exchanges. He was landing the cleaner/heavier head shots and doing A TON of great body work that the commentary ignored. He just didn't cut up Ben's face, where as Bens glancing shots marked up Maia's face and made the striking look more even than it was.
