Horizon: Zero Dawn (robot dinosaurs)

looks like 3rd person far cry, checklist roaming. what makes this different to those who've played?

It's similar to farcry in terms of open world. Far more challenging enemies, more crafting, I'm only a couple of main quests in but the story and dialogue is way better and supposed to stay that way.

Far Cry 3 is one of my favorite games so even if it was a clone it could still be great but it's supposed to be better than that

FC3 was good because all that gliding, crafting and hunting was new. But the story and characters were ordinary, childishly ridiculous even. I was waiting for an exclusive this highly rated to have something unique, but I'll buy it soon anyways just to see how it plays.

Only 2 hours in but intrigued by the story and definitely seeing the Far Fry comparison. Stealth feels a little retarded but stealth in most games does to me at first.

Unrelated, but what was that PS3 launch (I think) exclusive with the redhead chick?

Heavenly Sword?

A few hours in and having a lot of fun just roaming around looking for loot, and doing a few upgrades. Found a vendor and trying to figure out how to grind out some cash for the new bows and other weapons.

Aloy's scan ability is a blatant rip off of the the Witcher sense, but I loved that mechanic in TW3 and added an extra layer of depth to the side quests and they didn't feel like a simple fetch/kill quest. So that was a welcome surprise when I got to that point in the tutorial. I only did one quest needing the scan ability, so hoping they stick with that mechanic to the side quests along with her inner monolog.

So I've played for quite a few hours.

Really loving this game. Game is gorgeous. Movement and combat is really good, fluid and not too difficult to "master".

It is undoubtedly similar to Far Cry, I feel split on this. For one it's good imo because it plays really well, the movement and combat feels pretty polished. It might have been nice to have something new and different but that isn't always good imo. I'll take playability over different every time.

The crafting is good, seems to be a pretty good amount of options. The enemies are challenging, you need to learn the weaknesses and go after them.

Story seems great so far.

I might say fuck it and get this to play until Mass Effect comes out so what is it like a cross between Far Cry and The Witcher?

I'd say that and a dash of Uncharted.

Damn this game is gorgeous, especially when it's raining. Photo mode is better (and makes more sense) than Uncharted too.

From reviews I read leading up they said far cry, Witcher, fallout, Uncharted. I somewhat agree. But the game is gorgeous, plays excellently and is great imo so far.

About 5 hours in or so, finished the proving and set out of The Embrace. Really enjoying this and my OCD is kicking in pretty hard. I only have a few side quests, but I just can't bring myself to continue with the main quest knowing there are so many crafting upgrades available for the cost of a little grinding.

Running across a few merchants that have some pretty decent gear, but I hate buying a minor upgrade only to find a better upgrade with a little progress. The main quest sounds like I'm heading to another city, so I'll probably see what they have going on equipment wise, then set up camp and upgrade a bunch of stuff.

so far, so good for me with horizon. i'm a few hours in. the weapon diversity is pretty f'ing awesome.

love the way you can approach combat.. plan out your attack, set traps, etc.

that's the best part of the game, imo.

it's the most gorgeous game i've ever seen, btw. making me really happy i got the pro + a 4k tv.

So without spoilers, is the story good? I just finished the Proving and I have some ideas of where it's going and it's holding my interest so far, but I'm just afraid it's going to take a left turn and be some goofy shit, if that makes any sense.

I'm sucking ass at this so far, I don't even know how to use the launch line thing.

Reminds me of Bioshock 2 when you had to protect the Little Sisters.

Really is so much to do.
The fucking map is huge. Everyone keeps saying it's 40 hours but seems way bigger than thay
