Holly Holm UFC

Holly Holm is preparing to compete in UFC's 135 division. I would absolutely love to see a Holly Holm vs. Cyborg fight at some point in the future though, although I can't imagine a scenario where it happens. Ronda is probably a really bad match up for Holm, but Holm I think would have an excellent shot with Cyborg.

Holm definitely matches up with Cyborg better than with Rousey. Her striking (including kicking) is elite. She only needs to worry about being taken down. And with Cyborg she could realistically succeed in keeping the fight standing. With Rousey, no chance at all.

I think she's doing the same thing Miriam Nakamoto is doing. She's working on her grappling in the gym and doesn't really give a fuck about who her competition is right now. The UFC has a bunch of killer grapplers who could make both of them look awful if their ground games aren't up to snuff. They don't want to make the mistake Germaine de Randamie made and start facing quality grapplers too early in their careers. They want to be sure they are ready before signing that UFC contract.

I agree with that ^. If I recall correctly both Nakamoto and Holm were both already approached by UFC and they both declined. They recognize they are far from ready for a competent grappler (let alone Rousey), and want to take it slowly. They are also a rare bantam weight commodity - they are both undefeated. If they can remain undefeated and work their way to a title shot, that would go long way towards creating serious hype for their possible fight with Rousey and landing a solid pay day.

Cyborg would bully brawl Holm. Holm is far more skilled and technical, but Cyborg's power and agression would be too much.

Angela Hayes announced as Holly Holm's opponent for December 6th at "Havoc" in NM

It has been almost two years since Hayes last fought in MMA.

Note: This fight, like all of Holm's MMA fights, is at 135.

I'm a holmo. She's one of the few female fighters who attracts me to watch her fights, the others being Honda, Cyborg, and Eye.

The UFC should buy her soon and her to their stable. I'm sure she would accommodate them and make 135, given the opportunity it'd present.

I remember fans posting in the thread for the event where she made an appearance in Bellator, and they were saying her striking was not that good. It just goes to show the short-sighted, tree falls in the forest, schadenfreude nature of so many MMA fans. She had elite striking credentials and now had to worry about td's. Obviously she's a very good striker....for a woman.

That is NOT a given. Cyborg has never faced a striker with credentials like Holm's. Not even close.

According to Sherdog Fight Finder, Angela turned 40 yesterday. It would seem she is looking to make a quick buck with this fight.

Holm fights at 135 so she woudlnt have to accommodate them by making the weight, its the weight she fights at.

She is gonna take her time, get a few more fights and then move to the UFC next year. I dont think she is in a rush. She has a few more legacy fights on her deal so she fights end of the year in another org, then the first half of next year she can get her last two Legacy fights completed and then mid year sign with the UFC.

Right now she is fighting girls she should beat and look good beating them, she isnt being tested but at this point they probably feel its better to just get her in the UFC first. UFC can market her as the unbeaten boxing champ who is destroying girls on her way to the UFC.

Cyborg would do the same thing to Holm that Julia Budd did to de Randamie ... use her superior strength and standing grappling to hold her up against the cage and physically maul her.

Given? Very Probable!!!!!

I don't want to see it. Holm is a 135'r. Cyborg might be moving up to 155. It would be a mauling.

love her, but she needs to face a competent grappler already.

Ten grand is a lot of money if all you have to do is be a (former) fighter with a pro record and show up to get your ass kicked, lol.

Don't forget the asterisk.

I hope Hayes comes out strong and shows she is still to be reckoned with. Odds are a bit against it but it could happen. She pretty much lost to the middle to top fighters of earlier days.

After this fight, she'll only have one remaining on her contract. If she continues the trend, and is capable of finding an opponent, that final fight in Legacy will likely be in February or March.

Holm's upcoming fight isn't a Legacy fight. It is her own promotion's fight. The event is named "Havoc" and it will be held in Albuquerque on December 6.

That is the same date as the upcoming Legacy card so it has caused some confusion.

(There has been no announcement whether "Havoc" will be on a live stream, or not, yet.)

You're correct. I was so excited to read about her next fight that I did not notice it was outside of the Legacy promotion.

I suppose that says a lot about their difficulty in finding opponents. If I recall, Winkeljohn stated that a dozen or so fighters turned the offer before Allanna Jones accepted.

In the end, I see three paths for Holly prior to joining the UFC and after her Legacy contract expires: 1)Set up several fights in New Mexico; 2)Take up one or two specialty fights in Invicta; and 3)A combination of both.

I honestly think Holm makes a better face for WMMA at this point in time. Honda is a one trick pony, while Holm seems more well rounded. The only downfall is nobody has been able to touch her yet.

Agreed. She'd be great as the face of WMMA.

Gosh damn, I hate that "face of WMMA" tag line so much. It's the reason why that "WMMA" term became popular and ready for the haters to lump together with the WNBA basketball league.

If I can turn back time, I'd convince everyone to say "The Women's Divisions" instead.

HH destroys RR

And I thought the "Sara McMann beats Rousey for sure" people were being a bit premature. The Holm hype people are beyond ridiculous. Let's put this into perspective. Holm and Rousey both began their pro mma careers in 2011. Rousey has gone 7-0 against opponents with a cumulative pro mma record of 64-20, including 2 Strikeforce champions, 1 Strikeforce title challenger, and her opponents have compiled an 11-2 record in Invicta FC (the highest level of women's mma outside of the UFC). When Holm goes 6-0 in December by beating up another scrub, it will have been against opponents with a cumulative losing record in pro mma, including facing no one who's been even good enough to get a single fight in Invicta.

When her own coach (Winklejohn) says she's 12 months from being able to face the top women in the UFC, you can be sure it will be quite a bit longer than that.

There's a women's basketball league?
