As happens so many times here, a fighter got an instant fan base that hadn't really been paying attention, and got crowned the Next Unbeatable Champion.
I would think it would have gone to Tate but it's a good point, if the judges were willing to give the second round a 10-8, maybe at least 2 would have given the last round to Tate* at 10-8 which would have given her the decision. I believe Tate needed a finish to win but apparently others disagree.
* edit: had she maintained control until the bell.
If Holm/Tate was:
10-9
8-10
10-9
10-9
9-10
I believe that adds up to 47-47 although math is not my strong suit.
Best Wrestler is Mcmann.Holly wants a rematch with Miesha, there's no interest in going up in weight now. When she was champ, she was open to it, but now she's just trying to get a rematch and basically do what's best for her career. She's trying to get the belt back, that's what she wants, it's the most important thing to her right now. Her main interest lies in getting the belt, trying to get a fight with Miesha, not moving up and fighting Cyborg.
People need to understand that fighters don't just accept every fight that comes their way. If any of you guys were fighters, the ones who say 'duck duck duck duck,' your career would be ruined quickly because you don't know how to make a good business decision whatsoever. This fight has very little interest for Holly's career right now, that doesn't mean it won't ever happen.
Holly would wreck Cyborg anyway. Cyborg is so damn sloppy on the feet, she'd get tagged up by Holly all night. Cyborg just moves forward and throws sloppy punches at you, she wouldn't fare well against Holly just like Ronda didn't. Moving forward like a bat out of hell and throwing wild shit doesn't work against her and that's all Cyborg knows. Her aggressiveness works against everybody else just like it did for Ronda, but it would be her undoing against Holly. Cyborg fought ONE high level striker (Jorina Baars) and she was outclassed badly. She won one round, if I remember correctly, but was dropped in practically every other one.
And it's not easy taking Holly down. We saw how much trouble Miesha had taking her down at all, Miesha has the best TD's in the division, she's the best wrestler there, and I expect people will say how Cyborg would submit her, but Cyborg hasn't submitted anybody in her entire career. Even in submission grappling, Cyborg has only one submission out of 8 matches. Cyborg doesn't try to submit anybody at all and her best TD's are when she puts you against the fence, and Holly stops TD's more effectively there and she's pretty decent at getting up. Miesha is very, very good on the ground with her control and has the best submissions in the division in terms of variety 'cause Ronda only has an armbar.
And who the hell has Cyborg even beat? she's the most overrated WMMA fighter of all time. Her best wins are Gina and Marloes Coenen, she hasn't beat anybody, she fights the easiest opponents in WMMA pretty much. Cyborg hasn't fought anybody GOOD in YEARS. So overrated. I could see Miesha and Ronda beating Cyborg too. She's not that good. She really isn't. She's so sloppy. God, how amazing it would be to see Leslie beat the brakes off her.

Best Wrestler is Mcmann.
Miesha has better MMA wrestling.
Tate doesn't even know how to do a proper level change. Her wrestling is not great at all.
MMA wrestling =/= pure wrestling. McMann is a better pure wrestler but Miesha has adapted her wrestling much better to MMA. Miesha outwrestled McMann when they fought so that's that.
Idiots, she was winning every round except for the 2nd. Including the round were she fell victim to that hail mary sub.
How was she able to win matches against boys and win the women's state championship in high school? How has she won so many fights with wrestling in MMA? lolIf you can't level change then your wrestling ain't good. That's that.

Hey, you're preaching to the choir, I'm just speculating on what lengths the judges would have gone based on a unanimous 10-8 in the second round. There is no way Tate could have gotten a 10:8 for the third round. She was losing until she landed that take down in the final two minutes. There is no guarantee that Miesha would have even won the round if she didn't get the finish.
I don't know. In MMA her opponents generally don't have decent wrestling fundamentals themselves. So she gets away with it.
How competitive is that women's state championship? Perhaps her level change is better in pure wrestling. Maybe she finds it difficult changing from a fighting stance. But if that is the case it hardly speaks well of her "MMA wrestling".
She pulled an Aldo.
