Feels like they designed sections of the game to be irritating rather than challenging.

I'm enjoying the general gameplay but the gank rooms for example i get zero enjoyment from.

Thought I was nearly done with a gank room just now but 2 more enemies spawned to join triple damage bro and then created a flying wall towards me making damage impossible to avoid.

Their formula is obvious. Gating anything significant behind a gauntlet room filled with shit enemies. This game could have taken a year to develop given all the copy paste bullshit. This is more disappointing than Cyberpunk 2077s launch.

Picked up some new movement skills and a damage boost so decided to backtrack to the beginning and see what i could find. Not disappointed so far...

Always a golden moment in MVs!

This game seems to be getting praised though. I’ve never seen anyone say they love Dark Souls 2. Still going to wait on it though. Want to get the physical edition on Switch 2. Normally I get third party games on PlayStation but fuck that 30 hour 100 percent completion trophy.
Meme is on point, IMO, but not to be overthought. SotFS is my favorite Souls (oui, love; there are many of us) but launch edition DS2 was blasted. Problem is meme-maker used wrong cover art for the meme, lazily choosing launch edition. SotFS and HK: S/s = love.

100 score on opencritic with 9 reviews so far. I have never seen that in my life. Is this really that good or are people afraid to criticize this?

Hard to say. I think it's an objectively well made game, but has some issues. However, those "issues" really only come down to the the player's personal tastes, and not necessarily fundamental/technical ones. I would find it hard to complain about anything the game does fundamentally "wrong". It's personal shit, like it's annoying difficulty, or feeling that it doesn't reward the player much through the first half of the game. I may think those are "flaws", but they are easily countered by someone with a different perspective.

I'm sure there is some fanboyism going on, but the game itself is very well made no matter how you slice it. It just might not click with some, or simply tire them out.

I also think they're getting some bonus points for just not being greedy, and having other studios complain about them not being dicks for *GASP*...not price gouging their customers. For that alone, the game is gonna be praised. It's a big studio's(and even some indie studio's) worst nightmare. Small team, popular game, and they're practically giving it away. The bean counters are upset that they threw a wrench into their plans of justifying a $20 price hike for most games. They proved that you don't need to do that, and all you need is a quality product that's in demand, and you can sell it on the cheap and still make tons of money.

The industry is upset. It's like some phenom all-star player taking a $100 million dollar pay cut to remain with some bum team they like. Everyone else gets devalued after that.

Considering Team Cherry is damn near as independent of a studio that one can be. The Triple A publisher repercussions on game review publications regarding one negative review isnt there. However fans of a specific entertainment product have been known to be unreasonable regarding valid criticism. For instance that woman IGN(?) reviewer who gave Cyberpunk a bad score before launch.

Its also quite interesting how a specific poster will stoke dissent on industry underdogs. Yet will verbatim run PR department deflection for the industry giants.

Afraid to criticize. Its already getting patched next week and mod makers have made the game better for PC players

Finally got round to playing it, got to say I’m not finding it that much harder than HK.

Got past moss mother without taking a hit and beat bell beast on my second try, not even finding the dreaded diagonal down strike that bad.

Explored the deep docks before I ran out of time, only about 4 hours , so I’m guessing I’m still in the settling in phase.

Loving it so far, any nit picks I have are far and away outweighed by positives.

The real fun begins after the Lava stage...

The bosses are great. Its the runbacks and general exploration that sucks.

Pretty much. That's what's so weird about this game. It's everything outside of the bosses that kicks the shit out of you and wears you down. At least in the first half of the game, past the first few zones. I've heard the second half feels more natural, once you get some meaningful upgrades, but getting to that point feels like a chore and a half.

On a related note, I'm putting "runbacks" up there with "swimming" and "escort" levels, in terms of things that need to absolutely DIE in videogames. It ain't fun. It ain't rewarding. It's needless busywork that cheaply extends the playtime. It's so much worse in this game, though, since in a lot of instances, you can't simply run through it all. They purposefully designed some of these enemies to be runback stoppers to chip away at your health before a boss. That wasn't the case in the first game, as you could jump over and avoid most enemies on the way back to a boss. Not here. If this game had a simple checkpoint before bosses, it would be so much better. Your journey through pure fucking Hell just to get to the bosses, would feel so much more rewarding, instead of having that deflating feeling of having to knock off a few enemies with way more hit points and herky jerky animations than they deserve. Absolute nonsense.

Will I need a replacement controller ?
You'll have to experience it for yourself. There's a point, and I put that point right after the Lava stage, where enemies get stupid tricky and powerful. It really depends on how much shit you're willing to eat. Some players love the old school NES-like challenge. I personally find it annoying as all fuck. Especially when the original game was absolutely perfect in balancing difficulty.
