Holder Warns Public Schools Against Rejecting (illegal) Immigrants

the thing with this is, and i think my stance on illegal immigration has been defined, but the thing here is if we don't educate these kids, we are going to have a whole lot of problems as a result. millions who don't even have a grade school education? can't be good for the country.

we need to stop illegal immigration in other ways, like going after employers who hire them. that instantly solves the problem, denying kids an education does not, because the parents will still come here for work.

This is what gets me.
So many people look the other way regarding those who employ illegals under the table.
Instead of placing any sort of blame on them, they place the blame on the workers "stealing our jobs".
It's pretty weird.

I agree we need to tighten the boarder and go after those that knowing hire illegals. For any job you should require proper ID, at 16 you can get this at the DMV even if you don

That, plus serious enforcement efforts along the border, plus maybe a better program for bringing in (screened!) immigrants to do the necessary farm work and whatnot.

But the Republicans will never go for this because it ticks off their business support, and the Dems won't because they view those illegals as future Democrats.:icon_cry2

Why do you hate job creators and the economy? :icon_twis
To be honest, a lot of economic sectors would be very hard hit by getting rid of illegal immigrant workers. While it preceded the 2007-2009 downturn, one study I read suggested that illegal immigrants actually improved standard of living for most americans, and by a fair bit. That included costs including heath care etc, albeit averaged out across people--ignoring that some costs were primarily locally borne.

Illegal immigration is a hard one for me. "Tightening" the border won't work as a general solution--we've a lot more border security and patrols now than ever and a lot of border based deportation. Despite that you can't really make any border impassable. For people here, what do you do with an adult that was brought here when they were an infant? Hell if I know.

It

The Obama administration has actually been very vigorously enforcing the border, far more than any of its predecessors. The problem has always been disparity in opportunities on either side of the border.

Oddly, one ramification of tightening the border is that it actually has made many illegal alien problems worse. Prior to Reagan, a lot of farmworkers were indeed seasonally migrant--not only with crops but also between the US and Mexico. Reagan's amnesty came with a variety of conditions, including "tightening" border security. What this does, obviously, is make it more difficult to cross. This prevented people from going back and forth, once you made it across now you stay because you might not be able to cross again. Now you also bring your family with you.

How did our president get to go to school?

Duh. The registration requirements just say you need a birth certificate and social security number.

It doesn't say that has to be an AMERICAN birth certificate and social security number.

So Obama just used his Kenyan birth certificate and SS to register.

But it wasn't HIS SS number.....

Damn, even as a kid he was a slimy lawyer looking for loopholes.

EDIT: Sorry for the derail all, just having some fun.

illegals don't come here for the view, they come here for work, so you go after employers and you no longer have to worry about it. i'm all for beefing up the border but i think if you went hard after employers it would be a moot point.

Does anyone have an argument against this?

Basic education is a human right.

So barring undocumented children from school would effectively deny a certain class of 8, 10, 12 year olds a basic education. That sort of shit is straight out of a Muslim fundamentalist theocracy.

Not surprisingly, the right-wingers here are in unanimous support of it.
