One Fight Night 39 (on Prime Video) is tomorrow w/ a submission match between Helena Crevar and Teshya Alo.

Going w/ Crevar by submission.

Your pick?

Just read that crevar misses weight by 24 lbs so the fight is now open weight

Yeesh, she's only 19 and looks like she's already taking pages out of Cyborg's playbook.

What had originally been agreed as a bantamweight matchup at ONE Fight Night 39 became an openweight contest following a dramatic weigh-in in Bangkok. Crevar eventually tipped the scales at 161.5lbs – more than 15lbs over the bantamweight limit and nearly 24lbs heavier than Alo, who weighed in at 138lbs.

Was it originally booked for 145 or 135?

This is turning into a squash match.

Crevar is kind of in a weird place. She's really talented but cutting a ton of weight as a 19 year old girl is probably not healthy and yet the talent pool over 150 in women's competition makes ufc mens heavyweight division look ridiculously stacked.

Apparently women's bantamweight in One is 145 lbs. She missed weight by fucking 16.5 lbs and her opponent didn't know until day of.

I hate when popular competitors pull this shit, win and get away with it - they know their less famous opponent can’t afford to refuse the fight. Totally unprofessional.

Will be rooting against Crevar from now on. Maybe next time she'll remember to bring her 7 lbs weigh in bikini.

I don't think she's cutting a ton of weight. You expect to be cutting 5lbs or so as a minimum for a day before weigh in which appears to be the case for her if her story is to be believed.

I'd let it slide, this time. The hydration testing does catch people out. I'm a bit surprised Danaher/Tonon didn't warn/prep her. She's big and probably walks around 155-160ish and I don't think there's that many in that circuit that size in the open market that they want to match her up against as a star to build around (ie. someone she'll likely run through, but a big enough name to get clout).

What makes you think Danaher/Tonon didn't warn/prep her? She's a pro and has been doing this for years at the highest level. If she's too big to make the weight... she shouldn't have signed to make the weight. This isn't kids madison weight classes.

Sorry but unless I'm missing something, I don't see any valid excuse for this. Totally unprofessional.

Musumeci was saying that the hydration testing has been figured out and he was cheating it.

Didn't do it well the last time didn't he? I jest, he got set up with a impossible cut last time. Probably best for him that he lost the title if One has the same champions clause as UFC.

I wouldn't say cheating, I'd say "solved". In my head, you still have to pass the number, I'm sure there's things you can do to give you the number they want without coming in walking weight like they intended. You have to go and experience and experiment, like normal weight cutting. I remember when Eddie Alvarez and DJ made their One debuts their opponents looked huge compared to them. It was like... they were a weight class above them lol.

A 24 lbs weight miss is grounds for an entire support team to be terminated and the fighter to move camps/trainers.

Allegedly she was on her way to making weight, failed a hydration test at ~ 150 lbs aiming for 145 lbs and was ordered by officials to rehydrate. 161 lbs was post hydration weight.

Still a royally botched cut, but better than Smotherman.
