So say we increase our policing, put even more fathers and mothers in jail. How does that impact those kids who still have a choice? They've got single parents, if they're lucky, and those parents are working multiple jobs to get by. They don't have time to give the kids attention and struggle to make sure they're taken care of at all. These are in areas where there isn't a lot of opportunity, and the most desirable occupation they see is in crime.
It's a cycle, and it's a cycle that was kicked off in a racist time with racist intentions. Just throwing money at problems isn't a viable solution, but that doesn't mean you should give up because those people are helpless. It means you reassess the game plan.
