This is the opposite of what's happened. The majority of Asians were Republicans in the early 1990s, and they went hard to the left over the last several decades. The reason for that is because "leftism" policies are actually quite attractive to the majority of Asians.

I think the Republicans need to actually begin being thoughtful in their appeal to Asians and Catholic Hispanics, because their current method of just saying they are brainwashed is not effective.

But the question should be, how did they become liberal people when their families initially leaned conservative? Nobody is just automatically liberal or conservative, people develop their thoughts and opinions based on their experiences and their interests.

Based on polling and surveys, it is a combination of Republicans having unpopular policy (I listed some earlier), and the feeling shared by most minorities that Republicans simply don't care about them. That is a pretty bad combination.

I tried to point out to another poster that Republicans forfeit any policy advantages they have (which are few, but do exist) by being antagonistic instead of welcoming. The response was a complete shunning of that very logical approach, and the conclusion that the USA just needs to be more selective about who we allow to immigrate. You can read the exchange a few posts above.

That is the kind of statement that antagonizes, instead of welcomes. It is essentially saying, "My political party is doing a bad job of appealing to you, and instead of determining why, I just think we should not let people like you come here." That doesn't sound like a very effective approach to me. I'd even say it is pretty insulting. Of course, the same party also says that it's just leftist propaganda that is brainwashing these people into voting for Democrats. So at that point they are doubling and tripling down on insults.

But like I said, it's not a bygone conclusion. Any candidate could come along and completely shift the tide just by showing people that they care. George W. Bush got 44% of the Hispanic vote because George W. Bush genuinely likes Hispanic people and they know that. He could speak to them and not seem like a phony. People want to vote for someone who actually cares about their well-being.

But too often, the Republicans come across as being openly hostile towards minorities. If that's not their intention, then they need to take a big step back and figure out what the hell they are doing wrong. But they never seem to do that.

Every single Asian American group votes Democrat except for Vietnamese. Are you saying that we should have been "more selective" before allowing Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Chinese, and Indians to immigrate?

Take a minute to contemplate how much those Asian American groups have done for our country. Especially right now, during a global pandemic, consider the fact that Asian Americans are overrepresented in healthcare.

And while Asians do not cite immigration as one of the top issues of importance to them, they do indicate in polls that they will not tolerate antagonistically anti-immigration rhetoric. So again, the Republicans fall short here when they really do not have to.
