One NYPD cop was stabbed and another slashed by an unhinged knife-wielding man inside a Bronx subway station early Wednesday, cops said.

The two transit officers were responding to a 911 call of a man with a knife on the northbound No. 5 train platform at Pelham Parkway around 2:30 a.m. when the 40-year-old menace — later identified as Howard Clunis — started to swing the blade at them without provocation, authorities said.

Clunis stabbed a female cop in the arm, and slashed a male officer on the chin, police said.

By the afternoon, Clunis — who lives about a mile from the station in the Laconia neighborhood — was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing, authorities said.

The knife he allegedly used during the attack was also recovered.

Both officers were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition.

“At Jacobi Hospital early this morning with our @NYPDTransit members who were slashed trying to apprehend an unhinged perp who was menacing straphangers with a knife on a Bronx subway platform,” the union captioned the post. “Thankful that both cops will be OK.”

Just peeked in for a moment tbh.
How do cops confronted with a knife wielding suspect, who then assaults them, not shoot the shit of him/her/it/them?
Tragic and almost comical loss of authority to neutralize homicidal threat to the public due to what?
PC suspect claiming victimhood of some kind?
If true, civilized society is LOST.

Man suspected of shooting five police officers in Minnesota arrested
The officers are suffering from non-life-threatening injuries

Kelly Rissman,Graig Graziosi

A man in Minnesota suspected of shooting five police officers has been arrested.

The suspect was still on the scene near Princeton, Minnesota when police responded to the incident, according to WCCO.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning near the intersection of 190th Avenue Northeast and Glendorado Road Northeast in Glendorado Township, according to the publication.

Police dispatch radio messages revealed that officers were executing a warrant at the suspect’s home when the shooting began, according to the Star Tribune. Officers reportedly were intending to search the suspect’s home, though the purpose of the search is currently unknown.

One officer was reportedly shot in the chest and the pelvis, according to police radio messages.

All of the officers were involved in the Sherburne County Drug Task Force, according to police.

The suspect’s criminal history includes a felony drug conviction in 2006 as well as another conviction on the same charge in the mid-1980s, according to court records.

The suspect was reportedly wounded in the exchange with police.

“The suspect was injured in the incident and was transported for treatment,” Benton County Sheirff Troy Heck told the Star Tribune in a statement. “The cause and extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.”

According to WCCO, three officers were being treated at North Memorial Hospital and the other two were being treated at St Cloud Hospital.

They were all suffering from non-life-threatening injuries, the outlet added.

Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck said that “while there is currently no danger to the general public,” he warned locals to avoid the area for the time being, according to the Star Tribune.

Former NFL player Sergio Brown taken into custody in the murder of his mother, police say

By Josh Campbell, Eric Levenson and Whitney Wild, CNN

CNN — Former NFL player Sergio Brown, who had been missing since his mother’s death last month, was taken into custody on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for first-degree murder in her killing, police said in a statement.

Brown, 35, was arrested in San Diego while re-entering the US from Mexico, police in Maywood, Illinois, said. He is awaiting extradition to Maywood, a suburb of Chicago, to face the murder charge, police said.

Mexican law enforcement officers have known Brown’s whereabouts since at least September 19, a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation told CNN, which was first to report Brown’s arrest.

Mexican law enforcement deported him after authorities in Illinois obtained an arrest warrant pertaining to his mother’s death, the source said.

Brown’s deportation was not without incident, the source said, indicating the former NFL player created a disturbance on an extradition flight from Mexico City to Tijuana and was threatened with removal by the plane’s captain.

San Diego Sheriff’s Department inmate records indicated Brown was in the agency’s custody Wednesday and being held on a felony fugitive arrest warrant. A court hearing is set for November 13.

Under US interstate extradition laws, a hearing is required if a defendant does not waive extradition. A court would be required to provide the final sign-off before Brown is removed from California and taken to Illinois.

The body of his mother, Myrtle Brown, 73, was found in a creek behind her Maywood home on September 16, Maywood police said. Relatives had alerted police they’d been unable to find or contact her or her son, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined she died from injuries related to an assault, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, according to spokesperson Natalia Derevyanny.

Sergio Brown played defensive back for Notre Dame before signing with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He played seven seasons in the NFL as a member of the Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills.

Family said they had no contact with Brown

A day after his mother was found dead, Brown’s brother took to social media to ask for help in finding him.

“My brother Sergio is still missing,” Nick Brown wrote on Instagram. “If anyone knows where he is I want him to know that I love you and please come home.”

“It’s a sad but hopeful time, and we will all get through this together,” Nick Brown wrote. “Mom always told me, ‘tough times don’t last,’ and our last conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope.

“Mom, thank you for being strong, caring, diligent, fancy, funny, and for saving my art. I won’t let you down.”

Maywood police said last month they were aware of at least one video circulating on social media that appears to show Sergio Brown in a tropical location rambling about “fake news” and claiming he thought his mother was on vacation. It is not clear where or when the video was taken, and police did not confirm to CNN the person in the video is Sergio Brown.

Last week, Myrtle Brown’s family issued a statement through attorney Christian Conway calling on authorities to advance the investigation into her death, saying there was sufficient evidence for an arrest.

“We implore law enforcement agencies, particularly the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, to work diligently and thoroughly in pursuit of truth and accountability for Myrtle Jean Simmons-Brown. No family should bear the weight of uncertainty regarding the circumstances of their loved one’s passing,” the family said.

The family also said they had not been in touch with Sergio Brown since his disappearance.

“We continue to pray for his well-being and advocate for his immediate and safe return to the United States. Let us work together to turn this tragic loss into a force for positive change and justice,” the statement read.

“Myrtle was a beautiful, loving, and inspirational soul that made everyone around her feel like they mattered. With her contagious smile and personality, our loss of Myrtle has left an indescribable void not only in our lives, but in our communities,” the family said.

Amid the search for Sergio Brown, neighbors praised Myrtle Brown to CNN affiliate WBBM.

“Myrtle, she was an outstanding woman, and I’m hoping she’s in the right place and she’s with God,” Carlos Cortez, her next-door neighbor, told WBBM. “I never would’ve expected this in a million years.”

Neighbors described Myrtle as a sharp dresser, outgoing person and someone who loved to go dancing.

“Just a lovely lady. Very soft-spoken, outgoing. Always on the go,” neighbor Kevin Grayer told CNN affiliate WLS. “Just a happy person. Her personality was just wonderful.”

“She didn’t deserve that,” Grayer said. “She was too good of a person to die like that. That’s just sad.”

Search and arrest warrants are the worst. LE, whether local, state or federal, almost always face dangerous and oftentimes armed suspects who don't want to be taken in.

I think I had a few runners and a few that fought arrest, but in many areas, that is not the experience of the officers serving warrants. They face high risk every single time. It also greatly depends on what the warrants are being served for. Obviously, murders and violent crime is high risk, but so are drug raids. I have never done a single drug raid where weapons were not found. Always guns with the serial numbers filed off and almost always found under couch cushions

The hairiest drug raid I ever did was in the 90s at a BGF (Black Gorilla Family) safe house in West Oakland. We hit the apartment on the second floor, already adding to the logistical problems, and immediately took gunfire from a back bedroom. The point man fired through the wall, striking the
armed suspect who then dropped the sawed off shotgun he was holding and hit the deck. Two more suspects had jumped out the 2nd floor window to an alley but were quickly apprehended by the perimeter team. We found a large amount of heroin and crack, numerous firearms and other
contraband. Shooter survived and went back to San Quentin for 7 years. He had just been paroled after serving a 9 year sentence for murder. BGF eventually broke apart, being supplanted by Nortenos and Surenos gangs.

West Oakland is no joke. Whenever I go to the airport, I don't stop anywhere between the highway and airport. Last time I put gas in Oakland was near the Colosseum and I felt like I was in Somalia.

You got that right. It has deteriorated so much in the last 10-20 years. Fucking disgraceful.

- Knife atacks are the worst. Dont know how the cops didnt stuffed the person with lead.

I have gone hands on with at least three subjects with knives but never drew down on any. The first time, it was a fight in a crack house involving a guy with a machete. We were actually headed to that house anyway to try and get someone leaving the house to pull them over, find drugs, arrest them, then get them to flip and get a search warrant for the house. We were a block away when a neighbor called out with a fight in progress with one guy chasing another guy with a machete. We ran into the house and I was first one through the door and I saw this guy swinging the machete in a hallway while the other guy was holding a chair to fend him off. I just straight up plowed the guy from behind. He went down hard and actually landed face first and the machete was under him and bounced up and scalped him a little, taking off a chunk of his forehead that had this long, nasty dred-lock hanging from it still attached. After the guy was cuffed and put in the cruiser and being watched by another officer, i went in and photographed the piece of skin with the dred attached. As a joke, I tossed it at my partner and yelled “spider!” And he about fucking shit his pants.

Another one I have told several times, but quick version is I grabbed a guy’s wrist that was trying to slice his own throat and we fought over the knife and I got cut across the hand with a bloody knife.

And another one, I had just responded to an armed bank robbery. We were searching abandoned houses after we saw the suspect running between houses. We cleared each house and knowing that the suspect was armed with a handgun and had just robbed a bank, adrenaline was a motherfucker. So after we clear that without finding the guy, we got sent on a domestic. My parter was talking to the dad and gave me the signal to arrest the guy. As I approach him and tell him to put his hands behind his back, he pulls out a pocket knife and starts shouting “shoot me, shoot me-just fucking kill me or I’ll kill you!” He had the knife raised up in the air like highlander holding the sword to the sky and I grabbed his wrist and we started fighting and I kneed him in the legs and was able to get the knife out of his hand and I tossed it and then took him down and arrested him.

- I wond't get the risk. My borther got hit by a knife in his arm, while detaining a atackant that was trying to stab a security guard, and he is a black-belt in bjj. I'm a good kicker, but wond't assume the risk, did in simulations, but they're like video-games, wheres i can always trie again.

Teen Fatally Stabs His Sleeping Mom in Front of Newborn Sister: Police

BY MAURA ZURICK ON 10/14/23 AT 7:25 PM EDT

A13-year-old fatally stabbed his mother last week as she slept in their Florida apartment while the teen's 2-week-old sibling was in the same room, according to local police.

The teenage suspect, who is in 8th grade, called the police around 11:30 p.m. on October 12 and confessed that he just killed his mom in their home at Amelia Oaks Apartments in Hialeah, Florida, the Hialeah Police Department (HPD) told local media outlets. His mother's body was discovered with multiple stab wounds in front of the 14-day-old baby's crib, local station WTVJ reports.

The teenage suspect, who has not been identified due to his age, was taken into custody at the scene, police said. As of Saturday, the 13-year-old is facing a charge of second-degree murder as a juvenile for his mother's slaying. However, HPD investigators and state prosecutors will determine whether he will be tried as an adult for first-degree murder, which requires premeditation. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

During questioning, the teen told detectives that he stabbed his mother while she was asleep in her bedroom with his newborn sister feet away in her crib, according to an arrest report obtained by WTVJ. After the killing, he allegedly took photos of his mom's body and sent the images to a friend via social media and admitted to the friend over the phone that he killed her, the report states.

Newsweek reached out via email on Saturday to the HPD for comment.

When officers arrived at the apartment in Hialeah, a city of more than 200,000 in Miami-Dade County, Florida, they found the 39-year-old mother dead in her bedroom, next to her 15-day-old baby's crib, HPD Lt. Eddie Rodriguez told Miami station WTVJ.

The newborn, who is the suspect's half-sister, was unharmed, police said. The mother's husband, the teen's stepfather, is a truck driver who was working in Georgia when the slaying occurred, Rodriguez said.

"This is heartbreaking," Rodriguez said. "I never would have imagined something like this, a 13-year-old child taking his mother's life. It's a very sad story."

While police have not released the mother's identity, neighbors identified the woman as Irina Garcia, according to the Miami Herald.

HPD detectives are still trying to determine the teen's motive for the slaying.

"We cannot say why this happened," Rodriguez said. "We can say that he called 911 and advised what he did."

Rodriguez said the teen was known as a "good kid" and is in the eighth grade at iMater Academy in Hialeah.

Newsweek reached out on Saturday to iMater Academy for comment.

"From what I understand there were no other calls to the apartment and people here said he was a good kid and as far as we know there were no mental health issues," Rodriguez said.

The 13-year-old reportedly called 911 to admit what he had done because he said he was afraid he was also going to harm his sister and himself, HPD told local media.

"It makes no sense," Rodriguez said. "We are still scratching our heads as to what brought him to do such a thing and take his mother's life."

Joran van der Sloot admits to killing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, judge says

Almost two decades after Natalee Holloway vanished in Aruba, the man long suspected of killing the Alabama teen has confessed to her killing, according to a court filing.

“It’s over. Joran van der Sloot is no longer the suspect in my daughter’s murder. He is the killer,”Holloway’s mother, Beth Holloway, said Wednesday.

“He gave a proffer in which he finally confessed to killing Natalee,” Holloway said. “After 18 years, Natalie’s case is solved.”

In a proffer, a defendant offers information they know about a crime, often as part of a plea deal.

Birmingham, Alabama, US District Judge Anna M. Manasco sentenced Joran to 20 years in federal prison on Wednesday, October 18 – a sentence that will continue to run concurrently with his 28-year sentence for murdering Stephany Flores in Peru.

After all this time he admitted he bludgeoned her to death with a cinder block and threw he body in the ocean.
