HBO - Chernobyl anyone?

I get that there are subtleties that get lost between languages but getting a perfect visual at the same time as a language you understand works just fine.


Better to be able to use 2 senses at once (eyes and ears) so you can watch and listen at the same time.

you get used to them (in my country everything foreign is in subs)
 
Just saw the first episode. Cable movie networks are weird.. STARZ has a few softcore gay porn shows now, and HBO has always been questionable.. The only reason I bring this up, is that the show is is very well made, and pretty good, but the effeminate English accents are just weird. Why not Russian accents, at least? Does Russian sound to aggressive? Not defeated enough? Just a weird choice.

That aside, it's well made. I liked it. I hope I can see the rest.

Most actors are horrible at russian accents. Then we'd be hearing how inaccurate the accents are, or how bad the actor is etc.
Its not an easy accent to fake.
 
THe old mans speech, declaring how they were going to stay and do it for the state and just seeing that the people didn't have the freedom of choice but in fact were being made to follow orders with the threat of the military to enforce them was telling. Also when that guy picked up that piece of metal from the reactor with gloves on and a little while later his hand had split open and was basically coming apart at the seams...Crazy show

That speech made me so angry, then the clapping on top of it. Brutal
 
First episode was good but the British accents are kinda silly.....I understand they have a great cast but still. I guess they want these characters to sound "foriegn" and a middle American accent/actors won't cut it for HBO's target demographic, which happens to be Americans. How believable is it that Aleksy Kuchenkov sounds like Jimmy Struthers from down the street? Not everyone is going to be able to pull off that eastern Euro accent, might as well make them sound funny like Brits.

I honestly wouldn't mind Russian/Ukrainian actors with subtitles.

Just focus on the story telling, boys and girls.

It's a valid comment, and maybe if enough people make it, producers will listen.

Chernobyl is awesome, though. I'm loving it.
 
I keep meaning to watch it . . . anyone know now many episodes will be in Season 1?
 
Just checked to see if they fucked up and put episode 2 on tonight...nope, HBO has this shit in control.

Exactly.

Pretty much went into certain death.

But I don't think anyone at the time (minus maybe that one long haired dude in charge) knew how bad it really was. Or maybe they just didn't wanna know.

With what looks like cover-ups and misinformation, It's gonna be interesting to see where it goes from here.
 
That episode went by fast.

Good thing I'm DVR'ing these.

This story gets you hooked.
 
Just watched tonight's episode.

Such a good show so far, pretty scary though.
