HBO - Chernobyl anyone?

I didn't realize it was already out. Will check out.

Good episode. That old soviet official is an asshole, and that’s what they did in reality- don’t create panic, tell people that everything is fine etc, scumbags. Say what you want about Gorby, but if it was a hardliner in power, the whole thing would be hushed

Growing up in USSR, most had iodine at home, in cases like a meltdown or when evil nitwit capitalists would attack and destroy our workers paradise

The actor who played Maester Lewin from GoT was excellent in his little part, even though he made a critical error

I watched his performance and thought 'For that role, they should have hired Bernie Sanders'

That's the guy they kept alive just to study the effects right? The pics are fucking horrific

Holy shit that was awful
To google

This series is fascinating and sad

Was really intrigued when I saw the trailer. Honestly been intrigued since that dumb movie Chernobyl diaries came out. Never knew about the disaster before then.

Is this show like 28 days later or no

Watching right now. Glad to have something new to watch!

Great first episode but found it hard to get past the population of Pripyat not only speaking English, but with northern English accents.

It's very good.

Anyone here actually remember when it happened in real life?
My old piano teacher was supposed to compete in the Tchaikovsky competition which got cancelled that year because of the disaster iirc

Great episode, i didnt want it to end. Makes you realize how fucking scary radiation poisoning is. My God.

This is an amazing documentary on the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan that was damaged during the tsunami. Japan came real close to having to evacuate the whole of Tokyo! The engineers had to rip out car batteries to get the generators working again to stop the meltdown.

Weird how the thumbnail shows the refinery in Ichihara which is nowhere near Fukushima.

It also highlights how quckly civilians will be left behind

I saw this trailer a while back on YouTube. I assumed it was a movie!

I'll probably watch.

Ironically I just booked my tour of Chernobyl for October so... Will be interesting.
Man I want to go. I have been fascinated with Chernobyl ever since I played the Stalker PC game set there.

Hope you post a thread with pics when you get back!

I remember my wife thought i was nuts when i bought tyvek hazmat suits and respirators a few years back...last night she understood after watching that shit.

I know a guy from the area, and I swear he has a weird hue.

Just watched it again it was better the second time around. The denial of the situation had me so pissed off

Just watched it. Riveting shit.

The people taking their infant to watch a burning nuclear power plant while ash rains down on them had me heated.

The English accents ruined it for me. This is Ukraine / Russia ...

Needs more subtitles
