I got up to take a piss and as I was standing in front of the toilet, I felt this incredibly sharp pain on the side of one foot. Felt like how I imagine it would feel like if I broke a bone in my foot. It felt like it was inside my foot.

I had to piss so I fought through the pain and checked my foot after. There were no visible marks, no wounds, no bruises, nothing. I know for sure I didn't accidentally hit anything because all I did was sit at my desk, and get up to go to the bathroom, which takes like 2-3 seconds. I'm sure I would remember if I smashed my foot on something hard enough to cause this kind of pain.

And before that I was just sitting in front of my computer working/sherdogging.

I massaged my foot to see if it would help and laid on my bed and the pain eventually subsided. The sharp pain turned into soreness and it almost cool, as if I applied one of those cooling ointments (I did not). Which is a relief because it hurt so much I wouldn't have been able to work or sleep if it persisted. Now the pain is completely gone except it feels very subtly sore. It went away as mysteriously as it came.

What the hell? Has anyone experienced something like this? Am I cursed? Just a part of getting old?

TLDR:
1. Sudden sharp and intense foot pain.
2. No explanation for it.
3. Pain subsides mysteriously after about 10 minutes.
4. Why?

Plantar fasciitis? I have it, but my pain hasn't been as intense as what you described. I think it would be worth it to get an ultrasound scan, that's how I found out I had it, I thought it was a sprain before that and didn't treat it properly. If it turns out to be that, you will have to make some changes - getting more comfortable shoes and doing physio exercises.

If it's not that, then you've got AIDS.

I'd be leaning towards plantar fascitis or gout as well.
Have you been keeping yourself hydrated and are you getting enough electrolytes?

And as expected, an AIDS diagnosis would also explain it.

I just had two episodes of Gout in the past 4-5 months. And it sounds like the experience you went through is Gout.

What's your diet like? Is it terrible?

Yeah, man. Outside of my left foot always hurts if I walk or pivot weird on my pinky toe instead of the ball of my foot.

Hairline fracture, IMO.

Gout?
Kidney stones?
Gaids?

I think if it was Gout, you wouldn't be able to massage it...it would be painful to touch your foot in any way.

I thought kidney stones cause pain in the back, abdomen, etc. Not the foot.

All signs point to Gaids.

maybe you can go to one of those institutions that make you not gai no more

Thanks for the suggestions guys but I doubt it's gout because as someone else said, it'd be too painful to massage and gout to my understanding usually happens in the big toe accompanied by swelling. This happened on my pinky toe side right below the pink toe. But far too below the toe for me to think it's the toe joint itself. And there is no swelling or any other visible symptoms.

And once gain, it came and subsided very quickly. Gout nor plantar fasciitis does that. I know about plantar fasciitis because I've been dealing with for a while now and it's on the wrong part of the foot to be that.

I also spend most of my time barefoot so I don't think it's my shoes.

Never heard of this before but I don't think this is it either. The symptoms are different.

The weirdest thing about my pain is that it just came and went. If it persists I feel like I can narrow it down better.

Still got some very subtle soreness. I can notice it if I concentrate on it.

After doing more research I think it could be a tailor's bunion.

They get their name from the way that tailors used to sit while they worked. Traditionally, lots of tailors sat cross-legged with the outside edges of their feet pressed into the ground or their chairs. This extra pressure made them much more likely to develop bunionettes.
I have a very uncomfortable hard desk chair I work from and I sometimes sit cross legged on it. This makes the most sense although only one of the symptoms listed are consistent with mine.

Risk factors

Anyone can develop a tailor’s bunion. Certain groups of people who are more likely to have one include:
  • Women.
My foot identifies as a woman's foot I guess.

Never had that kind of pain, but used to have numbness.

It could be nerve or more specifically sciatica issue. Prolonged compression (sitting) could be part of the issue.

Do you do anything else that could be connected? Poor form deadlifts, squats, curls that turn into a back exercises?

Think the consensus is AIDS

I get something like that in my left foot. The feeling is like an electric shock to the outside of the left foot. Super painful. Thankfully I've found a way to control it. I'm always messing with my diet and surprisingly I've found after eating chocolate or nightshade members (tomatoes, potatoes, red peppers, etc) the shocks are more common. I follow a paleo diet so it isn't strange for me to avoid those foods. When I avoid them I don't recall ever experiencing the shock feeling in the foot. When I eat tomatoes or potatoes in particular I get the shock pains all the time.

One time I was standing and heard a crunch in my foot (up and near the middle).

I thought that it was a joint popping, as it felt as if a great deal of tension had been released.

It felt like this for perhaps 10 seconds, then turned to a sharpish pain.

It hurt for about a year or so, then went away. Could be that.
