Has Jiri become underrated?

He's literally only lost to one fighter in his UFC career, but he's sort of being viewed as a has been now. Very boxing fan reaction to him.

I think he beats Hill. I think Jiri is the better fighter. What I can't account for is if Poatan's magic has any residual effects in his upcoming fight. I agree that Jiri is too pure. That's why I'm picking him against Hill. I think he gets the finish.

He is appropriately rated IMHO. The Pereira losses shouldn't hurt him that much but his resume of wins is starting to weaken over time.

His best win being nearly 3 years ago over a guy who was in his 40s is not exactly screaming relevancy in 2025. Nearly everyone he has beaten is either retired or severely struggling so he needs to start fighting and notching wins to build himself back up. I believe he is a talented fighter and is up to that task but it's not surpising that he has lost momentum right now

Still a beast.
Still my boy.

Not in my book. LHW has been weak for a long time now. Outside the top 3, it's a bunch of flakes and old-timers. For a while there, Jiri stood out because of his athleticism, but he has never been impressive technically or mentally, and with him getting hurt so often in fights, things are not looking good for him going forward. I think he crashes soon and starts going 50-50 with aforementioned flakes and old-timers.

what needs to be brought up instead is how many ppl are a victim to their own lack of objectivity. Jiri is one of those fighters to which a subconscious mind will say: Oh i really like him he's so cool so therefore i will find a way to justify why he is amongst the best.

of course he is likeable and a breath of fresh air amongst a division that lacks any personality. but he is nowhere near a top fighter nor will be be if he continues to focus practicing his pseudo-scientific childhood weeb dream to which the modern world knows, as mostly useless.

his resume of notable names is rather thin for glover was hella old by that time, reyes in his long downfall before his current renaissance with Rakic coming off a loss.

he isn't technically spectacular and is quite chinny (whilst having a very weak chin behind his banzai beard).

got killed against Poatan. how did he react? we get documentation on him fasting for three days in the dark in some monastery in Moldova reflecting on his loss. like tf

guess what happened in the rematch? same lack of defence and got BTFO

No, he's appropriately rated especially given the state of LHW now. Also, we've just recently been down this path with Ferguson. If he doesn't smarten up his defense he will eventually go on a horrific skid. I don't think that's a secret and I think most people are waiting on it. We should see if he's made any adjustments in the Hill fight and if his chin can still hold up

Lol? The dude has taken crazy hits and is still standing. He's not chinny. Patan hits like a freight train.

How is he "nowhere near" a top fighter if he's literally a former UFC champion and has only lost to one other fighter in the UFC?

You spelled out what I think is probably the reason he gets hated on more than another 'reckless' fighter like Justin Gaethje. For whatever reason, his focus on traditional martial arts gets under people's skin.

okay nowhere near was hyperbole but i see his best days behind him if he continues without evolving himself as Champions are also made with favourable circumstances and line-ups in a division but i concede there.

and my username is Karate kid for my background in what's a traditional martial arts its why i love tony ferguson due to his attention to chinese arts & this includes Jiri for his own implementation of such, i just dont see them as practical in the far more functional MMA.

You just accused all of his supporters of hyperbole only to force your own in. Thee's deaded lad. Best prepare to meet thy maker.

Been a fan of his since his Japan days. But, his style makes it look like he has a Tony Ferguson future ahead of him. Just a matter of predicting when.

I found out for the first time today that he has a win over CB Dolloway, so yes he's underrated.

His style has a very finite limit and he's coming off a brutal KO. We will see if he has adapted at all to getting older and taking a lot of damage. Don't think I've seen anyone under rate him though. He definitely could benefit from getting a team to convince him to restrain his style, work on defence and measure his blitzkrieg better

I rate Jiri but Jamahill finna knock him goofy azz head in2 di standz dats 💯📠🚫🖨️

In the last 10 years (and 16 fights) Jiri has only lost to Poatan. I think he is the second best light heavyweight currently.
