Has cinema reached its peak?

Prisoners, Good Time, Uncut Gems, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Revenge, Green Room, Blue Ruin, Ready or Not, Strange Darling, Zodiac, No Country for Old Men, Gone Girl, I Saw the Devil, Decision to Leave, Collateral, Us, Eden Lake, The Chaser, Drive, Nightcrawler, etcetera

Good recs. I watched everything expect Eden Lake and Strange Darling. Duel is in a league of its own. So raw and intense.

Its not because they arent going to be as good.
You think AI can save it? CGI wouldve done it if that was the case and it made it worse.

Go watch some student video, from some high school or college. They are terrible and no amount of AI or tech can help that because its not the tech thats the issue.
I didn't say it was going to be good. I also didn't say tech is or was the issue. I just said AI was going to kill studio filmmaking when people can make films at home with just a few prompts. And the studios themselves are going to help make it happen.

id recommend watching the movies nominated by the oscars. They do give credit for originality and experimenting in film. But lots of those films dont make it big at box office despite showing that there is still some originality out there.

No Country for OId Men is a great film, but is nothing like Duel. I'm guessing you just googled cat and mouse films.

You mean films that can only get nominated if they check a bunch of boxes that have nothing to do with creativity? No thanks.

Cinema, music, art.....it's all peaked.

We're in a clear plateau of originality and real talent in most of these areas and it is showing. The internet and cell phones sped the process up by probably a good 4-5 decades, due to oversaturation and a lack of appropriate filters.

People can do that now.
Its like saying "In a few years, you can just make your own beats in your living room. Itll kill the record label. People will just make the music they like"
It didn't kill anything. Everyday a bunch of idiots buy protools, fruityloops, Ableton, etc... and try to make music. 99.9% fail and still resort to buying music they like because what they make is terrible and isn't as simple as they thought. And thats with everything pre-packaged for them.
Its not like it was 30 years ago where you had to do all the sampling yourself and actually know how to do it and how to program and input your drums and what not or simply knowing how to play an instrument, which most musicians cant do now.
Its easier than ever and the music they make is worse than ever.

he didn’t say, “i wish there were more modern bad-guy-in-truck-terrorizes-good-guy-in-car movies that were great”

clearly your vibes literacy fucking sucks.

the oscars have leaned into woke agendas. But there are 10 films nominated, and most of them are not woke and stand on their own merit. Some great films that are original, which is why I think when people say originality is dead, they just arent looking very hard. These last 2 OSCARS years saw some great films like Anora, The Brutalist, The Substance, Anatomy of a Fall, Oppenheimer, The Zone of Interest, Poor Things

People can't make films on their computers that look like it came out of a Hollywood studio. Yet.

Why are you so emotional? I assumed when he said he wished there were more films like Duel that he meant more films like Duel, not more films not like Duel. Thank you for setting me straight.

not quite what he said though, was it? challenging the modern era to produce better films w/ Duel-like vibes & similar genre characteristics =/= challenging the modern era to produce better Duel imitations

hope that helps

I'm waiting for The Goonies 2 (but it's about gooning) <{katwhu}>

Early to mid 2000s.... Just like music

Pop culture goes through cycles and changes and we are in a long bad one, but the world will change and eventually it will get good again.
I may think it sucks now, but I'm not some doom and gloomer that thinks things will suck forever.
