Has cinema reached its peak?

i think cinema is in just as good a spot as any from the past. the only area where it’s been blistering is mainstream populist blockbusters, & even then, those are still good for at least a few remarkable releases each year

If they reduce ticket prices people will go back to the movies. The 90s and 00s were funded differently so they took more risks on creative ideas. DVD market was a big part of the funding formula. It’s gone now.

YouTube has also become a kind of ridiculous cesspool of garbage. They bury people who don’t pay them for views.

I would say we’re on the down swing of all forms of entertainment, outside perhaps TikTok style shorts

There are no more revolutions left to be had, whether domestic, international, racial, societal etc

The current revolutions in cinema are manufactured by multi-billion dollar studios (akin to pharmaceutical giants) that are pushing the female, trans and homosexual agendas. and let's be honest, only a tiny percentage gives a fuck about any of those

It seems that way. I was just thinking about how 10 years ago I'd get together with family to watch a movie typically on Friday evening. The selection would be good. We would have a good time.

Now, many Hollywood and online movies can be overly political, poorly written, poorly made. We all complain now that it is hard to find anything good to watch.

The last time I went to a movie theater was to see Top Gun 2. I figured it would be a better experience with the jets. There was only a hand full of people inside the theater. Hardly anyone goes to the movie theaters anymore. You can just stream the crappy movies or shows on your TV, phone or computer.

Went and saw Jaws last Thursday with my old man for the 50th anniversary re-release and it was absolute peak cinema. Tough to compare anything else to it, as it is a top 10 GOAT in movie history. Even the blocking for the dialogue scenes alone is perfect. There's just nothing that compares to it in modern movies. You really don't see that much effort anymore.

Most people can't direct or set a scene or do basic stuff like pacing. AI or cheaper special effects will allow more bigger budget action movies to be cheaper, but the others are pretty lean as it is.
AI will do that too. The prompts will be simple. Give your AI a basic set of ideas, then tell it to "write it like JK Rowling would write it" and then "Frame it the way Christ Columbus would."

Now imagine anyone with a modicum of artistic ability using these prompts, people who actually know how to block a scene, light it, etc...

Spielberg's first film Duel is on 4k, and I highly recommend it. Even that made-for-TV movie is better than anything put out by Hollyweird in the last 20 years.

I wonder if you saw the original one with the original soundtrack.

Notable differences is jaws smashing through the glass and gunshots.

I did notice that the dialogue was more drowned out during the scenes where groups of people are talking over each other, like in the Amity Town Hall scene. On VHS or DVD, those were easier to make out. With the re-release, I did notice both the splashes when Jaws pops out of the water and Quint's harpoon gun had extra oomph behind them.

AI is only good for shit you don't give a shit about how it pans out. No one who uses AI expects it to shoot movie. Maybe, someday but in my opinion we are so removed from that and what you will likely see instead is AI being used to help create shot during pre-shoot to make sure everything looks right for the actual shoot. Shooting 8-12k without artifacts, things looking weird, and proper performances from the actors or fake actors is way too much.

Cinema reached its peak in the 80's. It's at its nadir now. AI will destroy studio films entirely once people can start making big budget looking films from the comfort of their homes.
Its not because they arent going to be as good.
You think AI can save it? CGI wouldve done it if that was the case and it made it worse.

Go watch some student video, from some high school or college. They are terrible and no amount of AI or tech can help that because its not the tech thats the issue.

Money eventually ruins everything.

Once something gets "optimized" then you usually turns to shit. Because it's optimized for profit, not for quality.

Movies are no exception.

There are still good movies to watch.. and there always were shit movies in all decades. Too much woke shit now and somehow Hollywood managed to have worse FX than decades ago.. terrible CGI and all. it is like they don't even care anymore.
So yes.. we have good films now but not many will be classics

On the other hand the series.. things like White Lotus, Yellowstone, Last uf Us, etc... they have incredible productions.

Duel is absolutely brilliant. Great piece of suspense/thriller horror. Wish there were more good modren films that give a similar feeling and are a cat and mouse kinda chase like it.
