Had a waiter confront me outside over a tip

Tipping culture is bullshit. I'm glad I have lived in England/Japan where we don't have this shit.

If I want to give someone more money for something, then that's my choice, it shouldn't be a "moral obligation".
I wish we didn't have to tip in the u.s it can be a pain in the ass.

$5 tip was wrong ... that said , NOBODY talks shit AND pushes me to the ground . Fuck that guy . I would have broke his nose and jaw and gladly sorted it out with the cops . Being bullied when I was a kid leaves me with low tolerance for people putting hands on me.

Different in the UK, I never tip unless it's a small place where I know the waiter will get it directly, plus there getting paid anyway, no one pays me extra if I do my job with a smile on my face

How is it out of line? I mean the guy just did his job, and he's paid for doing his job. How is not paying him extra for doing his job out of line?

I haven't read through the entire thread, so please correct me on this if I am wrong but waiters are paid under the minimum wage (depending where this takes place) and rely mostly on tips.

And it's customary to leave a 30%-20% tip for good service, which would be $40-$60. And given it was for alchohol and not food, that doesn't excuse a $5 tip which would be insulting.

As stated in the OP, they paid with a debit card and could have written the rest of the tip on the receipt.

So if you're looking to have drinks and be served, go to a bar knowing you're going to pay for the service. If you don't want to pay for service, go to a place that sells beer, and bring it back to your place.

Now does that excuse the waiter's actions? Hell No. That waiter should be fired, but he has reason to be pissed off. He gave good service for four hours to a group of customers and is only being compensated $1.25 a hour.

always surprised at this american custom of tips. Here in Europe, if you give, for you americans, "just" 10% tip, the waiter will bow to you and write you a thank you card. Usually you give like an euro or two, to round the bill up, like if its 13.5 euro, you say 15 thanx. And its considered very kind. Most people dont give tips at all. Expensive sh+t tipping in the US.

how is that my problem?

how is that my problem?

I couldn't care less if you consider it your problem.

I clicked on the thread, read the OP, responded to it, and it made you start to menstruate.

That's your problem.

Next time you go out to eat, close your eyes and imagine everything cost $5 more. that's the world with no tipping. that's the reality of it.

The cost of the products being offered is less due to the amount of staff costing less. Everyone here is well aware of that right?

I just only had a $5 and I guess I just didn't think the server would be upset with that since it was just drinks.

With this type of thought process you are either very sheltered or very dumb. Or maybe you're just a young kid that doesn't know any better.
Since I am your elder I feel I have an obligation to point these things out to you. Your welcome.

I could afford to tip, I just didn't have cash on me.

I'm not a broke bitch, I just don't carry more than $200 in cash on me and I don't like tipping thru my cards because waiters have been scum bags in the past and added 0's to my tip amount.

So you tip $30. Waiter adds a "0". You look at your credit card statement like and adult and noice the problem. You call credit card company and talk to the nice lady for 2 minutes and th charge disappers.

OR

You decide to be a complete ass.

Cool, he took 45 minutes to come out with our apps, I liked the apps tho, I'm a fan of BJs soley because of their apps.

Shut the hell up, is my point
My point is you really have no grounds to tell anyone to shut up when you left a $5 tip for a $200 bill. If the service were really so bad, you would have left. Shouldn't you be applying for a job there instead of wasting your time drinking there?

Hilarious, I don't know what's funnier the $5 tip or the waiter pushing you down and challenging your manhood in front of your people fucking lol...if that happened to me I'd have to just move and start over somewhere new my friends would never let that one go.

Since he's a waiter, he should accept that some people tip more than others. He should have just let it go, instead of making a big deal out of it.

Surprised you didn't go inside and talk to a manager about him shoving you. He should have been fired. And you had witnesses.

It sounds like an honest mistake on your part by forgetting to carry a few extra bucks to tip this asshole.

Tipping is bullshit anyway, i hate doing that. Of course i do it, but restaurants should just pay these people more money an hour. I'll pay more for the food if that's the case, i just hate tipping.

Several restaurants including some big chains like "applebees" tried out raising prices a bit but not having tipping. Guess what? The vast majority of customers hated it and they switched back.
