Law Gun Control: A Global Overview

The other day I was driving on a highway in a rural area when I suddenly noticed a truck riding my ass. I was going about 85 in a 75 zone so I figured the guy must have been in a hurry. I pulled close the the shoulder multiple times to let him pass, but he stayed right on my ass.

Got to the next town about 10 minutes later and turned on a side street to go to my destination. Truck followed me there too. I stopped on the side of the road because I didn't want to take this guy to where I was going. I got my holstered pistol out of the lockbox in my vehicle and sat it in my lap. Guy stops behind me and sits there for about 30 seconds. Then he pulled directly next to me and sat there. Neither of us rolled down our windows and I couldn't see him through tinted glass. After a few seconds he goes down the street turns around and stops next to me again before finally driving away.

Never unholstered my gun, but I was happy to have it ready. Even if that town had more than one cop on duty there's no way they could have made it there if shit would have went down. Really strange situation since I can't imagine how I pissed the guy off.

I always have to ask, did anything ever happen that he just had to chase you? It literally boggles my mind when this happens, that people would go to that extent when nothing happened except maybe you weren’t going fast enough for them.

That's the weirdest part, I can't think of what I did to make the guy mad. If we were driving in a city I would just assume that I cut the guy off without noticing it. But I was driving on a two lane highway in the middle of nowhere for about 30 minutes before the guy appeared.

Yeah, it’s easy to get out of that situation in a city. You pull over somewhere and if the dipshit gets out, you speed off in another direction.

I just recently had a long drive on the highway for a vacation, and thinking about your experience gave me a little bit of anxiety, because I would have no way of handling it other than an awkward face off after I pull over. Speeding off in the same direction when the nearest exit is miles away? Not a good plan

You have a Glock, bro. Carry it.

Weirdos you meet out on the road is probably the number one reason I always carry my glock. Doesn't matter if you drive perfect . The rage beast is just looming for a reason to rage and he will perceive that you cut him off regardless if you did or didn't.

@Poon Goon

you totally made the right choice and did everything right. Got ready , didnt make any kind of contact or put yourself in a position with you where he could, didn't get out of the car and totally kept your wits and your cool about you. This is the statistic that is damn near impossible to keep track of but thank God you had it and didn't need it , that dude seems like he was more than likely looking for trouble and your good thinking made it impossible for him to play out his confrontation scenario. Often times not getting out of the car really does make all the difference in the world on if somebody ends up dead and its something that came up again and again in the classroom part of my shooting classes .

I don’t want to just start blasting. Of course I can use it in self defense, I don’t want to be in the situation where some road rager puts me in that spot, though. If I were to shoot somebody, it would be pretty serious.

You would rather be attacked by a road rager un armed ?

No, I’m saying that before I get to that, something crazy has to happen, like he pulls out a gun first or some sort of weapon.

I would gladly shoot someone that pulls a weapon on me, but I don’t want someone to pull a weapon on me.

the reason I don't conceal carry is because it excludes me from many situations I might intervene in where a gun adds an element of danger and responsibility that I don't want to have. I just think the likelihood that I would need a gun is way less than the likelihood where I could do some good without one.

I often carry pepper mace or a cane sword though.

Some of these lawsuits are so petty and pointless . . .

Kamala Harris-Led Office, ATF May Have Conspired With Anti-Gun Groups on Lawsuit

When local officials started declaring their counties to be Second Amendment sanctuaries, the idea that they might have held any degree of communications with the NRA or other gun rights groups beforehand was a serious accusation. You see, public officials aren't supposed to use their office to advance special interests, at least in theory. Especially when we're talking about taxpayer money.

Well, they're not supposed to unless they're pushing a media-approved position.

It seems that the Democratic nominee for president, in her office as vice president, is accused of doing something just like that. Plus she, along with the ATF, are stonewalling a House investigation looking into it.

And let's understand, Glock isn't accused of failing to conduct background checks or selling guns to unlicensed dealers for distribution. They're being sued because someone made an aftermarket accessory that has been illegal in this country since it was developed and Glock didn't completely upend their proven design so that the accessory wouldn't work anymore.

It's insane.

Imagine people modifying vehicles illegally, for a moment. Let's say they removed their emissions control systems for a second. This is an illegal modification under the Clean Air Act that many do for a variety of reasons, but it's still illegal.

This is akin to suing auto manufacturers for not designing cars so people can't do that...which is probably now on the table since I mentioned it.

So yeah, the lawsuit is stupid.

But it's worse if the ATF and the Office of Gun Violence Prevention--an office overseen by Vice President Harris--colluded with Chicago officials to make happen. This is an assault on a company that isn't accused of breaking any law. No one is saying Glock violated any rule or regulation. So why did our tax dollars go toward trying to punish them for something they're not legally required to do?

Moreover, if this move was so righteous, why isn't the ATF and the Office complying with the House investigation into their alleged collusion?

No, they did some shady stuff and know it and are hoping to keep the American people from knowing because this is yet another bit of evidence to show that it's not about guns in illegal hands, but about punishing law-abiding firearm manufacturers for stuff that happens outside of the realm of their control.

It really is time to defund the ATF and abolition the Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

The more things change . . . the more they stay the same.

It actually goes back much earlier than that.

From the time DC was created, they had a general prohibition on carrying firearms in public, from 1791-1857; it was codified into law in 1857. In 1858 they modified to clarify that this included a prohibition on concealed carry as well.
This was common amongst the colonies, most of whom adopted the English common law of the Statute of Northampton.

One could say we have a deeply rooted historical tradition of prohibiting open and concealed public carry.

Yet in 1892 a law was passed allowing open carry and concealed carry with a permit.
