Guess how much UFC fighters can bench press?

No one will convince me that Reem's bench press is only 330. I could bench 300 when I was 22. I weighed 180 lbs and was clean as a whistle. My buddy could bench 340 in high school, weighing around 190. (In hindsight, he was like juiced to the gills, but nevertheless, he was 17).

Rockhold is surprising, too... but I have known guys to look like that and not be able to push what you would expect.

Stipe just looks like a big strong guy who has never really put any effort into increasing his bench press strength, or anything other sort of powerlifting motion. I'm sure he could be doing 400 within a year if he felt any reason to try.

We need to give Stimpy and Overeem reasons!

Training question, power lifter bros! How does dumbbell chest press weight correlate to traditional barbell bench weight?

Supposedly when Coleman was a super juiced up 260lbs behemoth he was benching close to 550lbs.

425lbs for Kerr.

Standing press uses the whole standing chain - very important in sports in which you're standing. The chain used in bench has some applications in MMA (on the ground), but much lower frequency than the standing chain.

Having said that, the only problem with developing a strong bench in MMA is that its time that could be better spent doing other training. A strong bench doesn't hurt, but it runs into diminishing returns pretty quickly. So some bench work is good for most sports, but concentrating on it isn't optimal for most.
That goes with everything it's just a tool, and I disagree about the military press,
A true millitary press is strict the fact that your standing has very little benefit other than activating stabilizers that keep you upright, and this can be accomplished much better with a front squat..
Bench is better for upper body it uses more of the upper body, and it's much safer to go heavy on a flat or incline vs millitary press.

Don't get me wrong they both are great movements that have their place but if you only had two compounds for upper body it's would be bench and row.
The bench already hits the delts, lats and chest, millitary press does not hit the chest or lats at all in comparison.

You make good sense. I think having a strong chest could have pro's and con's, so I'm sure they condition their chest some. But like I said, I doubt they train for record breaking bench press max.

Of the guys listed below, most of those have cardio problems. I'd say DC, Rockhold, and Jones are prob the best conditioned. So having all of that muscle helps in explosive power (if you're a good grappler you don't really need it) but hurts by sucking out your oxygen.
Stipe - 315
DC - 330
Ngannou - 405
Overeem - 330
Lewis - 365
Yoel - 315
Rockhold - 275
Bones - 295
Tank Abbot - 550

Where are you getting these numbers from? Just making them up?

Here's Jones doing 345lbs.

It's pretty impossible to accurately correlate..
Allot of guys who are built like a Barrell have great barbell presses but in comparison their dumbbell press is weak, because the bar changes the leverage, balance and range of motion

no the TS posted that. I was just doing an analysis of what he posted. If you read my earlier post I stated I thought they should be doing more.

ADDITION: Also, I'm not on here to make shit up.

you need to ask yourself why you are so invested in dudes with big bulging chests bro. dyou wanna go tell werdum how he needs to build some lean mass in his upper body? fancy putting barnett onto a chest building program? maybe get cain on the old 5x5 routine? i'm sure they are just wasting their potential without your advice bro

You spent more time replying to this thread than I did making it

Well that would be pretty sick, I bench 400 in 205 class, and I train powerlifting and I'm on that Jon Jones supplements
Haha that’s sick man! Loved ur comment about Jon Jones supplement. You must have a really hard dick lol

Bench strength is not wholly indicative of physical strength to begin with....

By the way, whose shit posting alt account are you anyway?
<LikeReally5>

I understand that bench isn’t reflective of overrall strength, but if you look at his triceps, delts, chest, and tris, you know he can toss up more than 315.

What makes you think I’m an alt, and what about my posts have been shit?

Lmao bench means fuck all.
Military press, deadlifts and squats are the real functional type muscle building lifts. These lifts measure tfue strength. Not bench.

{<huh}

The ability to push weight horizontally doesn’t measure true strength?

I am pretty sure these aren't real numbers. I've benched 335 and I know im not as strong as some of those guys on the list

I also think people tend to overestimate how strong fighters actually are.

There are pro athletes and bodybuilders who have similar physique and are lucky to put up those number

A guy's musculature is not indicative of weightlifting strength.....

Also Your first 4 comments were negative shit posts and your only other comment was lie in reply to me....I saw you in the ray Borg thread/saw your join date and your A/V pic.....so I asked a mod who tipped me off

You'll probably be banned in A week or less at the rate I expect you to go

Unless you really are the dude interested in agave....then I would change my av if I was you

Which is a better gauge of functional strength in your opinion?
