What a beating that 1st and 3rd rounds were. He took the 2nd round off for sure from getting tired.

You would think it was 5 different 10-8s by how some people talk about this fight. Still a dominant and entertaining performance.

It's already been 10 years since UFC 87. I rewatched that fight last night and I have to say, it's probably GSP's most entertaining and dominant fight.

I didn't realize how much of a beating Fitch took but damn. Dude is a warrior. Thought it would be worth making some gifs.

I said I don’t remember the fight so well if you recall. I said that I haven’t rewatched very many GSP fights because he is boring and most of his fights are boring in general.

Great performance by GSP! Possibly his best and most dominant considering his opponent. Maybe it was his most entertaining fight...

Saying that was GSP’s most entertaining fight is like pointing out who the smartest guy with Down syndrome is.

When you put GSP fights next to Anderson or Aldo or McGregor or Gaethje etc... GSP looks rather boring. He couldn’t finish fights that he completely dominated

That picture really showed the disparity in ability between the two of them. I felt bad for Fitch after that one.

I remember in an old interview GSP saying Fitch was the only opponent he hadn't felt "break". Every other opponent he felt them go from trying to win to trying to survive, but the vibe with Fitch never changed.

This was an interview from before he fought Diaz, Condit and Hendricks though, I think from some time after the Kos rematch. I can't remember if he'd fought Shields yet.

But anyway, GSP said he respected the hell out of Fitch's mental toughness.

Nah, the only guys GSP had the guts to risk something in the stand up was guys like Fitch and Hughes, they were beyond bad at striking.

The thing I remember most after this fight was how big a deal they made it out to be that GSP could not finish Fitch. It made Fitch superhuman at the time because GSP finished nearly everyone back then. GSP's record at the time was 16-2-0 with 12 finishes.

damn gsp was a beast. props to fitch too. tough son of a b. fitch is a good fighter. too bad he ran into gsp. hendricks in his prime knocked fitch the f out though.

Well, that's kind of the whole point in MMA. Any smart fighter will try to go after his opponent's weaknesses. Why stand against a striker or why wrestle with a wrestler?

That's like saying Khabib doesn't have the guts to strike with Conor. But doing that would be just plain dumb since his strength is wrestling.

GSP has the advantage that he is very well rounded. So he can keep the fight standing against wrestlers and do the opposite with strikers.

No problem with that, my problem is he was boring on the ground too, he didn't take risks anywhere and that wasn't a lot of fun... I don't like the fact his oponent needed to be like a non-fator in something to him even entertain the idea of going for the kill, per example Bisping wasn't a noob like Fitch and Hughes striking, GSP attacked him non the less, because in fact you can take chances, because they also create chances for you to win... But he choose to spend a whhole lot of time in his carrer being boring and not risking anything... Koscheck 2 sumarize his whole carrer all the talent and none of the guts.

Wow the overhand in the 2nd round always stood out to me as the big moment in that fight but re watching Georges really beat the fuck out of Fitch
