Kids want things to change because their best days are ahead of them, while the elderly want stagnation because their future promises decline. Can't blame either one as it's human nature to look out for numero uno, especially as it comes to the more self centered amongst us.

Hmm, not sure I'd frame it like that exactly. I think its more that kids symbolically represent progress while the elderly symbolically represent tradition but of course individuals can defy that symbolism. There are kids out there who might be conservative and there are certainly many among the elderly who are progressive like Bernie.

Its just that when you want to express the value of progress kids are a good face to use since they're going to inherit the future while the elderly are better for expressing the value of tradition as they're our anchor to our past that we never knew first hand.

Imagine trying to do the reverse; have some young kid talk about how great tradition is or some old person talking about progress. Not saying it can't work at all but it defies our expectations a bit. Its sort of like how the disabled can act as symbols of the vulnerable more generally even if many disabled people can carry on just fine. The congruity between the visual representation and the messaging has a certain synergy that can make the message more powerful.

While I agree with the last sentence, and am pretty much on board with the second, I disagree with your opening line.

Most sources agree that people think of their early 20s as the best days of their lives. Finally able to live their own lives, peak physical health, discovering who they really are, but still somewhat care free. The world, and responsibilities haven't taken their toll yet and freedoms still intact that they will have to sacrifice in the future. There's a reason kids parrot "I can't wait to grow up so I can do what I want". Little do they know! Lol

Did you see the examples I posted? Those kids get adored as soon as they have any conservative view point, they get invited on fox news etc.

Look at Soph. She's 14 years old and foul mouthed (I thought right wingers were the party of instilling values?) but she gets so much weird worship.

I think the main difference is leftists don't start panicking and massively harrassing teenagers because they have a different worldview. Some of the things being said about Thunberg are absolutely disgusting.
