Yeah I think there's a difference between young people being socially conscious and children being used as emotional manipulation in politics. There's a fine line between the two, one is the ideal and the other is a gross perversion.

The major difference is whether the youth in question agree or disagree with one's own preferred politics.

That's misleading. China is the largest CO2 producer, but the US is higher per capita contributions.
But it's besides the point. One country shouldn't say that they have no obligations because other countries are worse. We live on the same planet and everyone needs to do their part (and some need to do more than others).

When it comes to planetary climate change, per capita means nothing.
The US is doing their part by actually decreasing emissions, as opposed to the the most egregious offenders increasing them even if their massive populations skew the "per capita" ratio.
