Greg Jackson: Powerliftings a "problem" for Jon Jones

Fighting is not a body building competition .My neighbours a beast built like a brick shit house , spent a couple of years intimidating me , kicked my dog because we made too much noise in the garden . I jumped over the fence and slapped the fuck out of him .Shame it wasn't a bench press competition he would have won .
On the flipside we have pro bodybuilders with a black belt in TKD. Then again people with actual martial arts experience is more often than not decent people who won't walk around stirring up shit like little bitches.

I don't think the powerlifting was a problem. It was more of ring rust and not pulling the trigger like he wanted, Bones actually had enough to go for another one or two rounds.

you can't really train strength and cardio at the same time. I think.

In the same session? Not really unless you don't go hard at either one which kind of defeats the purpose.

Seriously! Thank you!

Fucking shit...I wanted to go to Greg Jacksons but I think I'd prefer Tri-Star unless Firas is out of his fucking mind too.

EDIT: Not that being crazy makes him any less of a succesful coach.

Ring rust+More muscle Mass+Fighting a giant LHW in OSP

At the same time as in the same training cycle? Or are you referring to in the same session? For the former, it may not be as optimal as a strict focus, but I've always felt both were attainable to a degree at the same time. I don't do the latter because I've always found that to be pretty diminishing from allowing me to perform the best. I've been able to make steady strength and cardio gains at the same time in the past with a solid program coupled with adequate rest and good nutrition. Everybody's results will vary, but training this way fits my personal goals.

"I want you to feel water falling on your head and relax".....WAT?

Nick curson mentioned in a post (instagram IDB) that he thought jones lifting heavy was not a good idea.

Jones is best when he's quick and fluid. He did seem a bit robotic against OSP but I think that was mostly rust and playing it safe. I think he mentioned post fight that he was thinking too much if I'm not mistaken. Definitely seemed that way.

Same going to happen to conor. Conor will be thinking too much in his next fight and training too hard. Both fighters might have lost that special thing that got them there. That relaxed creative mentality.

Let’s go! Oh yeah, baby. Lord God, I love you so much, lord God. I just thank you so much for the opportunity to be back here, use my gift that you’ve blessed me with, lord God. I thank you for these great men that you’ve picked for my life. I pray that we all have your wisdom tonight, lord God, strength, wisdom and power, lord God. Speed and finesse, lord God. Lord, I pray you watch over me and allow me to keep it fun and have a great time, and just use my blessings to the top of my ability. Speed and power, my God. I love you so much. I thank you so much. Let’s win. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

LOL.

"Jon what was going to your mind when you hit a car at the intersection?" - I immediately thought of my freedom being taken away from me.

The most foolish thing about Jones' powerlifting is that he was doing so many 1 rep maxes, just to show off for his IG account. Even competitive powerlifters will shy away from doing too many singles because they don't build strength as effectively as 3-5 rep sets, and they drastically increase the risk of injury.

Did he train powerlifting instead of boxing though? Cause he must have thrown less than 10 punches in this fight.

I love this thread because it shows most of Sherdog doesn't know fucking anything about powerlifting and MMA training.

JJ was breathing a little heavy at the end of the bout. but he said to Rogan he could go two more rounds

And then you woke up...

Lol sorry, but no. Look at his body, he looks nothing like he did when he was powerlifting.

Yes he's standing by a manlet in the powerlifting photo, but there's a clear difference in what muscles were worked, what his bodyfat levels are, etc., between when he was powerlifting and how he looked after training for MMA. The two guys look nothing alike... because Jon stopped powerlifting months ago to get back to focusing on MMA muscles.

Powerlifting had nothing to do with his performance.

I feel more so that his problem was mental, not physical. I don't think his strength training was even slightly to blame for the way he performed Saturday.
