NFL Green Bay Packers 2024: The Power of Love

Last rare third contract (Bakhtiari) backfired like crazy, so I hope it will be better this time. Kenny has a ton of mileage, hope he can hold up for another couple of years, especially considering that they have no replacement for him at all lol.

Love's contract has to be next. Come on Gute, hurry up and get this done!

Think it should happen this week.

Yeah it's pretty understandable not to take any risks. He's in line for a huge deal, a freak injury can always happen and then he'd be fucked. Would be cool if they get it done in a few days, tho.

Yeah, I'm not mad at all. Love doesn't want another Teddy Bridgewater incident to happen to him, lol.

Bakh started to really breakdown right around 30. Clarks still only 28 even though it feels like he’s been around forever. I actually think the switch to 4-3 is going to let him feast. He’ll be given the chance to make plays instead of simply filling gaps.

Surprises:

- cutting CB Kalen King
- cutting S Anthony Johnson Jr.
- having Greg Joseph as kicker
- cutting both backup QBs in Pratt and Clifford after the Willis trade
-AJ DILLON DONE FOR SEASON

I hope Kalen King and AJJ can be brought back to the PS and that they will sign a new kicker down the line.

Anthony Johnson Jr. and Grant DuBose got claimed, two talented players lost because Bisaccia again got his special teamers only to still field one of the worst units in the league. Annoying.

Packers claimed a Kicker named Narveson.

Almost time for the games that actually matter. This team is still so young and relatively unproven that I have no read on them. But I think that's a good thing. The NFC goes through either San Fran, Green Bay, or Philly. I have Philly winning the east, but I don't think they will be better than the team that made it to the SB in 2021. San Fran will win the west but I promise you, they will not be the big bad scary Niners of the last 5 years. Not only will they regress, but the law of averages would suggest they do not make the SB again this year.

NFC title game could very well be Green Bay vs Philly. But I still haven't gotten over the divisional round losses in 2021 and 2023. Pack finally get some revenge and LaFluer finally bests Shanahan; in a battle for the ages for the right to go to the SB.

Bengals vs Packers for all the marbles.

We taking back the North!!

I'm hella excited for this season! Especially because we do know that it can go either way, whether it be Love still improving or maybe regressing, same with the young WRs, can the two stud TEs stay healthy, how will Jacobs perform and Lloyd later, will Rasheed Walker remain good and the O-Line in general? On the defensive side there is finally a new, exciting DC, but will it translate? Does S and CB turn into a strenght, how will the new pass rush come along, does Quay Walker take a step and what happens with Hopper and Cooper over the course of the season.

Then you sadly have at least one other very good team in the division with the Lions and a wild card with the Bears, I think they could be really good as well. In addition to that othe really good NFC teams. So yeah, the young Packers team has to improve over the course of the season again to have a shot at the SB. :)

Get this thing up and running again, first of all prayers to our friend @ralphc1 , hope him missing from Sherdog isn't age/health related and just something else. Sad not having him around anymore after already losing Greg (RIP). :(

This Packers team is frustrating for sure, they played two good/decent teams and lost both of those games, plus I'm not even sure how good the Eagles are this season. It is also true that they lost both of those games by 7 points combined, while missing three FGs. Both of those games also feautered tons of mistakes, including a whole bunch of turnovers by Love and generally fumbles, drops on offense and dropped picks on defense (at least three in the Eagles and Viqueers games).

So to me it is encouraging that the talent is clearly visible still, I'd even go as far as calling it high level talent. But we also have to acknowledge that going 2-0 with Malik Willis, which isn't a given by any means, basically saved the season so far.

For the offense I don't worry too much, Love was clearly still hurt and got better at the end of the game, he's made some really imressive throws and will clean up the turnover worthy plays to an at least acceptable degree (feel he will always be a little reckless). The running backs are going to be fine; TEs and WRs for sure; O-Line is a little worse than expected so far, but mostly due to a lot of penalties that will have to get cleaned up a little, overall they will end up being a good pass pro group again with maybe average run blocking. Basically the O just needs to stop aiming the gun at their feet so much.

Defense is a little more tricky, they get turnovers now, but don't look that good play to play. Hafley will be given time, he also mentioned that they aren't close to implementing the whole scheme, so we will see how it looks later on. Individually Kenny Clark, Rashan Gary and the pass rush in general is a massive disappointment right now. It's especially frustrating when you have heard Justis Mosqueda talk about the system before the season with Andy Herman, it needs quick pass rushers on the Edges. Packers have four power rushers and that's it, that will be something to look for in the offseason. Stokes and Nixon simply aren't very good players at this point, combined with the ILB play we better hope that Jaire and Valentine are back soon.

TL/DR Improve, limit the massive mistakes, make the playoffs, play your best football in the playoffs. That's the goal for the season lol. They won't be able to get a very high seed unless they go on a massive win streak now.

This draft strategy of picking project guys with high picks has to stop. LVN is non-existent and Gary looks rough in the 4-3. Wyatt’s the only legit linemen right now worth a shit. They also went from blitzing a lot last week to rushing 4 men for the entirety of the first half. Only when they started bringing more did they make some stops.

Not even worried about Watson being out, seems like Reed, Kraft, and Wicks (if he fixes the drops) are a pretty strong core. Kraft has taken Musgrave’s job and I don’t see GB looking back.

All that said I think you’re right that the season is early and it’s easy to fix a lot of the mistakes.

That's definitely a fair point, though I think LVN did some good stuff in limited snaps. But I do agree that they might need to adjust their R1 strategy in the draft a little bit. Gary took years to even get going, even though he eventually became really good until this season so far, those two years with almost no snaps are still simply ones in which he didn't help (much). It's the same with LVN, but he plays more than Gary did in year two, still needs to figure out a pass rush plan and more moves.

Yeah, Watson helps but he will be back this season, so it is fine. WR is the most stacked position on the team. I want Musgrave to figure out how he can become a weapon in the passing game, because that is his most likely ceiling and worth a lot, he has all the potential for that.

I'm gonna rant and you have to listen lmao. I really do like Matt LaFleur and I'm also all for keeping him, but he's been worse this season than in years past, he became more conservative, more tentative, but what is really annoying is that from fucking week one to this Wild Card game they could not fix any of their obvious problems. Over the course of the entire season the Packers suffered from slow starts, from penalties, from disciplinary issues, special teams blunders, hella stupid turnovers. What is even more annoying is that everything usually is reserved for the good opponents, making it nearly impossible to win those games when you basically sabotage yourself (of course the quality of the opposition also matters, but there are too many unprovoked woes as well). They did have a better roster this season for sure, yet were a much better team at the end of last season, hell they destroyed a good Cowboys team and almost beat The Avengers version of the 49ers.

But it is not only LaFleur, Jordan Love statistically was similar to last season, but anyone who watches the games can also see that he was way more accurate in general and provided way more special throws. In a way, his stats were a little held back by a rough first half from the entire team last year. No one expected him to perform at the level of the last ten games, because he was arguably the best QB during that time, but damn he fell off a cliff. If he can't get this sorted out and this year was his level, then good fucking night Packers for the next 2-3 years at least. Mike Wahle had a good comment about QB play, it brings the whole team mentality down if the QB is inaccurate all the time, it frustrates the O-Line, the WRs, the RBs, the TEs and the defense.

So, where do we go from here?

I did like the defense and especially Hafley, because he managed to have a Top 10 defense without a legitimate pass rush and with backup level CBs. They have found a stud in Edge Cooper, Quay has looked more solid down the line as well, we might have something cooking there (won't trust Quay 100% though lmao). Sadly Kenny Clark hasn't lived up to his deal, in comparison Rashan Gary was great this season, we need Kenny to get on a higher level again BADLY. The needs are mostly pass rush and corner, I think draft and FA can fix that. Also cut Jaire, he regressed and is always hurt, only saves 7m on the cap next year, but also a bunch of cash and a bunch of cap in 2026.

Jordan Love gets happy feet, so they need to continue to invest in the O-Line. Myers is hopefully gone, despite being good with the QB and protection calls, he simply is ranked constantly in the mid 30's of centers (of around 40+ overall), meaning almost last and among shitty backups. No, that doesn't deserve a 2nd contract. RB and TE should still be set. What are we doing at WR? Yes, they have a deep group when healthy, but Watson might not start the season and even with him they did NOT have a WR even getting to 1000 yards receiving, they LED the entire league in drops (and no, that is not on Love, those true catchable drops - every other NFL game you see tough catches, barely ever in a Packers game). In addition to Watsons injury, Reed fucked up his shoulder and Doubs sadly seems to have become a serious concussion case, wouldn't surprise me if he quits. WR definitely needs more juice.

They have some money this offseason, no one of importance to sign (Myers and Slaton are the "best" UFAs I think...). We will see what they do with it. Get some studs in the building, Packers tons of solid players but barely any difference makers. GPG

Love was dogshit last night but we should know by now that without Watson, the offense falls apart. I said it in the NFL thread last week, the difference is night and day.

I'm wildly impressed that the defense did what it did with the best CB being Valentine. Or Nixon? None of us even know. Like, think about that. That's absurd.

Team needs to focus heavily on oline and cb. Needs a fast wr with Watson's disastrous injury too but the first two are far more important.

Picking up Jacobs, X, Cooper, and Williams were home runs. Need a few more this time around as well.
